EXPERIENCE

Contract Facilities Manager, 2017

Mid-States Technical, Davenport, IA

As a Contracted Project and Facilities Manager at the John Deere Tractor Cab & Assembly Operations in Waterloo, Iowa, completed the following:

Supervised three overhead bridge crane projects which improved tractor assembly line up-time by 3 hours/day and modified the assembly line to produce the new 8R Series Agriculture Tractor.

Supervised outside contractors in the replacement of two conveyer expansion joints in the Tractor Wheel Conveyor System. The work area is located in the enclosed walkway between the Assembly Building and the Wheel Building, and it improved the reliability of the conveyer system during the sub-freezing winter conditions.

The Tractor Chassis Paint Booth Project installed a new overhead crane system and modified the two Air Supply Houses. This allowed for the quick replacement of motors and fans in the air supply houses and minimizes downtime for the Chassis Paint Booth.

Managed and supervised the installation of one concrete truck dock section which increased the available dock space by six truck bays.

Using approved Civil Engineered drawings, managed and supervised the construction of a 4,000 feet long by 42 feet wide roadway which improved the safety of incoming tractor trailer traffic into the back gate of the facility.

Capital Project Manager, 2014 to 2015

US Steel (Oil Country Tubular Products) - Houston, Texas

Using the Front-End Loading Process of Project Management, supervised and managed the Accessory Production Project to produce tubular pipes for the oil drilling industry. This included writing the technical specifications, determination of budget and schedule, negotiating with vendors and contractors, final supplier selection, and equipment acquisition. This project gave the facility the ability to produce 18ft long pipe in a new market for oil fracking.

Capital Project Manager, 2006 to 2013

Gerdau Long Steel North America – Vidor, Texas

Managed and supervised several capital and continuous improvement projects ($100K to $5.9M), and finished them under budget and on schedule using Project Management Principles and the SAP Program. Created equipment layout drawings in AutoCAD (2D) and used Microsoft Project for project scheduling and critical path determination.

In capital project planning, demonstrated expertise in budget determination using data from similar projects and preliminary bids. All capital projects were completed within 2% under budget.

Managed a team of engineers and contractors in the $5.9M Melt Shop Opacity Attainment Project which installed a separation wall between Melting and Casting and upgraded the existing Electric Arc Furnace Baghouse. Water modeling was used to eliminate the need for a second baghouse which was budgeted for $20M. This project reduced melt shop emissions from 20% to less than 6% Opacity and met the new EPA’s Operating Permit requirements.

Managed and supervised the $1.1M Electric Arc Furnace Baghouse Dust Handling Project which installed a new building, railroad tracks with a static scale and handling equipment. This allowed the operators to directly load hazardous dust into rail hopper cars. This project saved the mill $360K annually in zinc recovery and transportation costs.

Managed and supervised the $1.4M Water Pipe Project which installed 1,600 ft. of new 18” diameter pipe underneath wetlands and a bayou. This project resulted in reducing the fresh water losses by over 1 million gallons/year.

Developed and supervised the installation of a new CNC Grinding Machine, air conditioned clean room and new electrical power circuits. This $1.1M Project reduced overtime requirements by 75 percent and allowed the Roll Shop to stay ahead of scheduled mill roller change outs.

Managed and supervised outside contractors in the refurbishment of the Ladle Refining Furnace Baghouse which reduced exhaust opacity levels from 15% to less than 5%.

After Hurricane Ike in 2008, supervised the construction of the Railroad Lime Unloading Building and its new conveyer system. Without a Lime Uploading Building, the mill had to use super-sacks of lime at an additional cost of $50/ton. The rapid completion of this project reduced this higher manufacturing cost to $432,000 for this time period.
