Education

Skills

Advocacy

As a member of the Students Union Committee in my two-year MA study, I was involved in raising awareness of the personal and social needs of students and campaigning to improve the services offered to them by the University. Working in the social care sector with Geniuses, Visually Impaired Students and Save US required me to act as an advocate for the people I supported.

Communication

All my roles and experience with the UNHCR have required strong interpersonal and communication skills to work successfully with a wide range of people with different support needs. Additionally, I developed strong written and verbal communication skills through undertaking assignments on my degree course, delivering presentations, and as an active participant in the departmental seminar programme.

Negotiation

As a student representative in my second year, I regularly attended the staff student committee at The Higher Institute of Languages, Aleppo University. This involved liaising with fellow students, identifying issues where discussion with staff was necessary and presenting these matters in a positive and professional manner. All of that required negotiation skills to help ensure the committee reached consensus on a way forward.

Project Management

Whilst working as a volunteer with Concern Universal in Aleppo Syria, I was responsible for project managing a scheme where our team worked with a small group of misfortunate orphans and displaced people. Given a small budget and timeframe of just 2 weeks, my role was to help plan and deliver a variety of activities in order to build up the confidence and communication skills of children who were often highly traumatised by their previous experiences living on the street.

Teamwork

I worked effectively with others in completing numerous group projects at both University and work. I deem that my friendly personality, sociable disposition, cultural exposure and positive attitude gave me the ability to mix well with a wide range of people of different ages and backgrounds and made a positive contribution to the groups. My experience in the field of teaching enabled me to take control when required and ensure successful completion of the task.
