Director Supply Chain Operations – Davison, MI

As Director my focus was developing all supply chain aspects for Mersino which is a full-service water and fluid handling solution provider. Duties included assured material supply, optimal inventory management, establish and create all contracts, optimization of material cost management, develop a solid supplier base and their relationships, and enhance the supply chain group operational development and performance. Position eliminated due to organizational financial difficulties & consolidation.

Achieved key objective of improving operational and material cost to a target of 23.4% as a percent of sales from a budgeted 27.8%. A $3.2M improvement in a $60M revenue environment.

Organized material ordering and inventory strategy to assure supply of Raw and WIP to better align with production system resulting in successfully supporting the 15% production improvement initiative with minimal material shortages.

Sourced and on-boarded 6 new key material suppliers without interrupting production flow and further supporting 15% production improvement initiative and establishing new relationships for a win win environment.

Negotiated supplier - managed inventory program with Asian supplier resulting in a 3-week reduction in material lead time.

West Elm Workspace was a joint venture between West Elm a division of William Sonoma and Inscape Inc. a commercial furniture designer and manufacturer. As Operations and Supply Chain Manager my role was to develop the operations team and the Supply Chain structure to support this new start-up business. Partnership dissolved and business venture closed its doors.

Relocated the business to new facility by arranging contractors to prepare facility for operation, securing operating equipment, arrange suppliers for facility maintenance, obtaining permits and licenses for operation, and coordinating the move. Move completed on time with complete transparency to clients, and within budget.

Successfully started supply chain and operations teams. On boarded all 15 team members and trained.

Sourcing and vetting new suppliers to meet demands of the operation.

Developed SOP’s and policy.

Set up monthly reporting for operational performance, inventory management and financial status.

Develop new logistics shipping and receiving strategy for distribution and consolidation of orders coming from multiple suppliers.

Assistant Director University Services – East Lansing, MI

Michigan State University is a leading research institution specializing in agriculture, physics, and supply chain management. As Assistant Director my primary functions centered around group operational performance and development, contractual risk management and mitigation, budget development and management, performance measurement, cost savings, contract and organizational management in accordance to state regulatory compliance. Took opportunity at West Elm Workspace.

Team re-development successfully managed on-boarding 16 new team members in 20 months, and re-aligned team to include strategic contract team.

Increased cost savings for materials and services year over year by a minimum of 5%. Based on $285M in addressable spend.

Successfully sourced 100’s of products and services to meet university departmental goals.

Hawker Beechcraft is a $2.8B manufacturer and distributor of aircraft in the General Aviation Market. I was hired as a subject matter expert to provide continued development of procurement processes, strategic optimization of the supply base, and inventory management. Hawker filed chapter 11 and had 4 rounds of layoffs I was in fourth round of 400 associates.

Led sourcing for the next generation Electrical Power development initiative for the popular King Air platform.

Implemented consolidation strategies for process development and optimization of the supply chain program yielding $2. 3M reductions in annual inventory and operational cost.

Facilitated negotiation of secondary avionics equipment contracts securing material supply and improving suppliers on contract status from 52% to 93%.

DRS TECHNOLOGIES Feb 2007 to Nov 2008

Director of Supply Chain – Bridgeport, CT

DRS was a top provider of mobile power for the US Army with total annual revenue of $140M USD. My role focused on providing the strategic direction for procurement, production control, and inventory management. DRS lost major contract with US Army and I was laid off.

Implemented vendor managed inventory program as a part of the organizations lean initiatives, and material budget development to meet business goals for the organization. Resulting in 7% reduction in line side shortages and 3% improvement in productivity.

Reduced material costs and risks by $500K with the alignment of the sheet metal program by product family reducing the number of vendors supplying material.

Outsourced electrical assembly processes to Mexico for an additional $750K in savings.

Negotiated procurement terms with key suppliers. Improved terms and conditions for divisions by extending payment days out to 60 days resulting in a $345K improvement in month end cash balance supported by metrics program.

Wiremold; Redesigned company product delivery program to lower 48 states by reducing cycle truck delivery assets. Negotiated new freight contracts for all modes, and developed detailed tracking program for all locations resulting in a 3.5% reduction in operating cost as a percentage of sales to the targeted 5.5%.

Wiremold; Successfully implemented serialized scanning program through production process. This program improved packaging and shipping accuracy from 89% to 97.5%, inventory accuracy by 16%, and the overall project yielded a $4.5M operating cost improvement.

Wiremold; Created and managed a re-centralized purchasing program from a decentralized business unit model. Hired five new commodity managers and trained to sustain a $130M procurement program for five locations.

Wiremold; Utilized engineering and kaizen training to make process improvements to business unit that yielded a 30% improvement to productivity and was key to improving inventory turns from 16 to 21.

Intelecoat Technologies; Developed production control system and order management program to align order structure and priority to optimize material usage, ontime and infull order delivery, and a reduction in old and obsolete inventory. Resulting in a 16% production material waste, an 11% improvement in order fulfillment, and a 30% reduction in old and obsolete inventory.
