GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION 2007 – 2019

Senior Driveline Systems Engineer for AWD/4WD Controls – Chassis Systems Engineering (2014 – 2019)

Defined the 4WD Driveline System Requirements for GM Trucks which detailed required software features and functions, identification of serial data interfaces and inter-reliant functions with connected systems.

- Designed a software feature (GM first) to store 4WD performance metrics and customer usage in ECU memory for real-time data retrieval by OnStar and easy post processing analysis—over the life of the vehicle. This data is used to estimate warranty costs and reliability. (starting 2016 MY)

- Championed the removal of the 4WD rotary selector switch with LEDs and associated wiring by integrating 4WD momentary switches with the Driver Mode Control switch. Designed the software requirements to process the 4WD momentary switch inputs and the control and display of the new (GM first) 4WD instrument panel icons. (cost savings of ~ $8 per vehicle, starting 2017 MY)

Initiated the removal of the output shaft speed sensor from the 4WD transfer case on trucks and SUVs by using the OBD compliant wheel speed sensors. (cost savings of ~$3.00 per vehicle, starting 2016/17 MY).

- Championed the removal of the Clutch Characteristic Resistor from the AWD transfer case on RWD Cadillac sedans. (cost savings of ~$1.50 per vehicle, starting 2014 MY)

AWD/4WD Diagnostic Control Engineer – Transmission Diagnostics Engineering (2007 – 2014)

Developed the overall diagnostic strategy requirements for an AWD System on front wheel drive vehicles that utilized a brushless motor with a hydraulically actuated single and dual clutch system and for a 4WD System for trucks and SUVs that utilized a brushed motor electrically actuated and active clutch on both the single speed and two speed transfer cases.

- Designed, implemented and calibrated a comprehensive diagnostic algorithm to process both intermittent and hard faults for critical electrical and high-speed serial data signals to improve throughput, standardize temporary default actions (fault pending) and permanent default actions (fault active).

- Designed a software feature to measure the performance of the 4WD/AWD normal control functions and diagnostic functions; improved the measuring of diagnostic statistical metrics for real-time analysis and easy data retrieval.

- Experience with the following data acquisition & calibration tools; Intrepid’ s NEO VI tool, Vector’s CANape & CANalyzer tools; ETAS’s INCA tools.

FORD MOTOR COMPANY 1992 - 2007

Transmission OBD-II Diagnostic Calibration Engineer - Core & Advanced Powertrain Engineering (2000 – 2007)

Performed vehicle validation, testing and calibration for the OBD-II diagnostics and failure mode management on the 6F50E & 6F-MID Direct Electronic Controlled Synchronous (Clutch-To-Clutch) Transmissions—responsible for all vehicle applications.

- Tested and released the original launch of the 6F50E Transmission OBD-II Production Calibration for the new 2007 Ford Edge & Lincoln MKX (Oct/2006). NO RECALLS OR EMERGENCY CALIBRATION RELEASES.

- Tested and released the AX4N Transmission OBD-II Production Calibration for the 2003 - 2005 Freestar & Taurus/Sable. NO RECALLS OR EMERGENCY CALIBRATION RELEASES.

Used ATI data acquisition tool for data analysis and calibration.

Project Engineer - Advanced Service Engineering (1992 – 2000)

Ensured the release of all the vehicle End-Of-Line (EOL) transmission calibrations to the vehicle assembly plants.

- Designed, tested and calibrated off-board algorithms for testing Electronically Controlled Transmissions for EOL testing at the vehicle assembly plants.

- Provided critical role as EOL coordinator for Automatic Transmission Operations Division which included the following duties; meet with transmission Base Design Departments to review EOL calibrations, visit all vehicle assembly plants (U.S., Europe, Mexico) to finalize EOL calibrations to support Job 1, visit all transmission manufacturing plants for management review of EOL testing process and transmission returns.
