Pediatrics, Roxboro Family Medicine – Roxboro, NC 6 weeks

Performed newborn, well-child, and problem-focused visits. Educated adolescents on safety and social issues. Diagnoses included bronchiolitis, croup, pneumonia, otitis media, otitis externa, ADHD, and others. Educated parents on immunizations schedules, milestones, and safety precautions.

Internal Medicine, Person Memorial Hospital & Roxboro Family Medicine – Roxboro, NC 6 weeks

Worked in the office and the hospital managing mostly cardiac and pulmonology related patients. Treated in-office patients with various conditions including HTN, COPD, asthma, pneumonia, and malignancy. Exposure to joint injections. Primarily managed hospitalized patients with DKA, heart failure, and pneumonia. Spent time in the ICU managing the critically ill.

Behavioral Health, Carolina Behavioral Care – Durham & Hillsborough, NC 6 weeks

Diagnosis and management of various mental health disorders in an outpatient setting primarily focusing on depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder. Utilized GAD7, PHQ9, and MOCA assessments. Determined if patients met criteria for involuntary psychiatric commitment.

Emergency Medicine, Iredell Memorial Hospital – Statesville, NC 6 weeks

Worked in all areas of the ER (triage, cardiac, and trauma). Saw trauma victims, STEMI/NSTEMIs, respiratory failure, CVAs, codes, DKA, GI bleed, and lower acuity patients. Procedures performed include laceration repairs, I&Ds, splinting, cerumen impaction removal, and joint reductions. Exposure to lumbar puncture, central line placement, and thoracentesis. Basic radiological interpretation of x-ray, CT, MRI, U/S, EKG, and ECHO.

Obstetrics/Gynecology, A Women’s View – Hickory, NC 6 weeks

Gynecology – Performed breast exams, pelvic exams, and pap smears. Diagnosed patients with dysfunctional uterine bleeding, amenorrhea, uterine fibroids, and urinary incontinence. Observed IUD and Nexplanon insertion and removal, endometrial biopsy, endometrial ablation, and LEEP procedures.

Obstetrics – Performed pre-natal visits. Assessed patients for postpartum depression. Diagnosed gestational diabetes, gestational hypertension, PROM, abortion, and other conditions. Observed vaginal deliveries, caesarean sections, hysterectomy, D&C, and exploratory laparoscopy.

Elective – Psychiatry, Catawba Valley Behavioral Health – Hickory, NC 5 weeks

Diagnosis and management of various psychiatric illnesses primarily focusing on depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, personality disorders, alcohol and drug abuse. Assessed patients for movement disorders such as tardive dyskinesia. Evaluated new patients, established patients, and recent hospital discharges. Utilized GAD7, PHQ9, and MOCA assessments.
