Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) and Marketing/Business Coordinator. As a registered radiology technologist one of my duties besides taking digital x rays is to adhere to state and federal laws protecting both employees and the general public. As a Radiation Safety Officer, I monitor radiation exposure rates of staff technologists and make sure all guidelines and parameters are met within these laws. All radiologic equipment is tested and kept in optimal condition to meet both state and federal guidelines for safe use on the general public as mandated by law. Any inconsistencies are directed to me by staff and corrected in a timely manner. If equipment can't or don't meet these safety criteria, they will be reported as inoperative and removed from public use. Once repaired or replaced, I will have a physicist conduct an Equipment Performance Evaluation (EPE). Monitoring of staff badges for exposure levels are done quarterly. Exposure readings are calculated and results are sent to us from an outside monitoring agency. Other duties include monitoring staff credentials. QA/QC of all radiologic equipment with phantom testing, update exposure/technique charts and upkeep of Radiation Safety and Protection Manual. My marketing abilities are still in the infancy stage as for medical contracts and referrals. Most of it deals with trying to establish an account with physicians, home health care facilities, hospice centers, nursing homes and assisted living.
