Responsible for the entire range of centralized financial activity for The Zidell Companies including financial planning, analytics, process improvement, mergers & acquisitions, treasury management, accounting, human resources, insurance and risk management, information technology, tax and pension management. Reported directly to CEO & Board. (18 staff)

Hire, lead and oversee a team of professionals with specialties in accounting, human resources, information technology, insurance & risk management and tax.

Negotiate contracts for all areas of finance. Hire outside service vendors.

Manage banking relationships with numerous banks, insurance companies and finance companies.

Develop and maintain treasury management including cash management, on-line banking and related security measures, investments and borrowings.

Develop and improve accounting systems for start-up and acquired companies including accounting procedures, internal controls, reporting and best practices.

Significant experience in inventory costing for manufacturing, distribution, real estate and construction businesses. Oversee overhead applications and changes in overhead rates.

Review and analyze actuarial calculations for general insurance and employee benefits. Provide brokers with guidance for negotiating with insurance companies and benefits providers.

Re-structured companies’ insurance program. Aligned policy renewal dates and computerized renewal data to gain significant efficiencies. Negotiated broker fees from commission based to consulting fee based significantly saving the companies’ broker fees.

Introduced loss control programs, including safety monitoring and return to work programs, which significantly reduced the companies’ general and workers’ comp insurance premiums. Reduced workers comp. experience mod saving 56% in premiums.

Primary support for due diligence work and business valuations related to mergers, acquisitions and divestitures. Largest project related to sale of several manufacturing/distribution companies to Pon Holdings P.V. in The Netherlands. Prepared Scot-Hart-Rodino filing.

Lead member of the Zidell Employees Profit Sharing / 401(k) Plan Administrative Committee which is responsible for quarterly economic review, investment selections, service vendor selections, audit, discrimination testing and ERISA compliance.

Led multiple computer implementations on systems including JDE, Epicor and Viewpoint.

Led a number of successful property tax appeals in Portland, OR and Houston, TX.

Developed a company-wide Wellness Program including annual bio-metric clinics and regular health promotion.

Introduced LIFO accounting for inventory resulting in significant tax benefits. Simultaneously account for inventory on a FIFO (average cost) basis for operational purposes.

Managed legal department for 1 years doing all contract review and all coordination with outside counsel related to cases under appeal.

Managed flood of 1996 including disaster mitigation, damage recovery & claims management.

Supervised inventory control procedures over foreign operations in Canada.

Hedged international inventory purchases using forward contracts in Lire, Yen and Taiwanese $.
