-On 24 hours duty every 3rd day (8 AM to 8 AM the next day), manning the emergency room; ICU and in-patients (floors) and alternately every 3rd day manning out-patient department 8 AM to 5 PM.
-History taking and physical examination of patients assigned including clinical impression
-Daily rounds and progress reports
-Diagnosis and treatment of common medical disorders both in an out-patient department and emergency room
-See serious patients as often as their condition warrants
-Performs ward procedures assigned by the consultant staff
-Answers all referrals for other services and departments and personally refer the case to the consultant in charge as soon as possible
-Prepares discharge summaries of patients assigned
-Preparation of protocols for conferences

Medical Officer III (Third year residency training)
More advanced knowledge in pathophysiology, biochemistry, special diagnostic procedures and therapeutic skills in the different specialties.
1. Cardiology- read ECG, stress test, cardiac series and do cardiac clearance
2. Gastroenterology – read gallbladder series, upper GI series and barium enema
3. Nephrology – interpret urinalysis and blood chemistries, read intravenous pyelogram (IVP) and knows the technique of peritoneal dialysis
4. Pulmonology – read chest x-ray and interpret blood gas and pulmonary function test
5. Infectious – handle common infectious and tropical diseases.
6. Neurology –handle routine Cerebrovascular Accident Diseases and basic neurologic cases
7. Endocrinology – diagnose and treat diabetes mellitus including ketoacidosis and common thyroid disease.
