Smart/Intelligent Grid Technology Manager

Created an innovative remote communications solution to integrate multiple vendors Intelligent Grid Switching SCADA Devices (ABB, Siemens, National Instruments, and SEL) utilizing the latest communication technology such as (Fiber, WiMAX, LTE, and Qualcomm’s GOBI Technology) with Cyber Security. The solution saved CenterPoint energy 30 million dollars annually. An integral part of the Project PMO team for the 500-million-dollar Department of Energy Smart Grid Project. Develop user case process models using Visio. Develop WBS and track projects utilizing MS Project Server. Collaborated with cross-functional teams utilizing Excel and SharePoint. Utilize SAP for Asset Management for the duration of the project.

Design solutions that help the ability of a distribution control command to reach an IED, which depended on the capability of the communications system used. To provide the highest availability of telecommunications networks, as well as provide a highly secure system. Lead a team that implements an independent dual-path telecommunications network between the ADMS and the intelligent re-closer controls into CenterPoint’s distribution system. One communications path uses WiMAX technology, while the other path uses a cellular or satellite solution. These communications paths are secured by two cellular virtual private networks (VPN) end-to-end devices. Tested and approved several wireless device vendors’ products for smart grid solution.

Developed the telecommunications requirements for distribution generation helping companies comply with the interconnection agreement while remaining in compliance with ERCOT and NERC CIP standards. Develop several solutions that allow RTO Transfer Trip and Meter communications to be isolated from un-secured and secure routable protocols per NERC CIP requirements.
