Performing review and ensuring technical accuracy and quality of Engineering Electrical deliverables such as design calculations against standards specifications, drawings, purchase requisitions, technical bid evaluations etc. for the construction.

Title: Design & Manufacture of two Pole Air Cooled Gas Turbo Generator

Client: BHARATH HEAVY ELECTRICALS Limited, HYD. (B.H.E.L.)

About it: 1) 10 to 56MVA 4Pole design, air cooled. 2) 50 to 220MVA 2Pole design, air cooled.

3) 220 to 350MVA 2Pole design, hydrogen cooled.

Cylindrical laminated rotor design or salient pole rotor design. These generators have normally been of TE construction with integral air to water heat exchangers. Design was based on stator and rotor temp… rises giving accepted standard total temp… based on an ambient air temp… of 40 C. The standard generator rating was matched to the steam turbine rating at design steam condition. The gas turbine uses compressed and heated air as the power medium. Power output is a function of air flow, pressure, and temperature. For most operating conditions, the two-pole generator is a thermally limited device. Increased electrical output will result in a proportionate increase in losses and winding temperature rise. Thus, the total temp… limitations of the windings can be maintained and higher temp... rises allowed if the temp... of the cooling air is reduced. One of the prime advantages of the gas turbine for peaking applications is its ability to be started and stopped quickly. The gas turbine generator set is loaded rapidly, often achieving full load in less than two minutes after receiving the signal to start. Preventing the buildup of dirt and other foreign substances with in the generator is important to insure long trouble-free life. Many gas turbine generators are installed not only for peaking service, but also to provide startup power for an adjacent steam power plant, or emergency power for nuclear plant auxiliary motors. The application of a two-pole air cooled cylindrical rotor generator to a gas turbine driver is considerably different than that historically used for application with steam turbines.
