Career Synopsis
Silmont Technologies, LLC, Adrian, MI 2016-current
Consulting with global companies on improving their Quality Management Systems, Quality reliability, Process Improvement, and Product Development.
Evaluated and provided process expertise for ensuring quality reliability, for the new generation of frameless, high efficiency solar panels. Identified and provided warranty liability risk assessment and mitigation for the company due to deficiencies in their manufacturing process. Estimated several million-dollar savings in warranty claims, repairs and damage to reputation from poor application of sealant used in frame-less panels. Provided education of Silicone sealants used in robotically applied process regarding application, maintenance of equipment, cure inhibition, adhesion and cleaning of components. Suggested process improvements to alert of issues which would prevent unplanned shutdowns and reduce waste. Set up SPC for evaluation of incoming materials eliminating unnecessary testing thus reducing effort and non-value-added delays.
Consulted on development of Silicone foam for Chinese company allowing them to expand their market into the automotive industry, as well as other industries.
Consulted with Medical Device manufacture on developing silicones for use in lab on a chip product. Provided education on silicone chemistry and processes used for manufacturing.
Wacker Chemical Corporation, Adrian, MI 2005-2016
American affiliate of Wacker Chemie AG, manufacturing products including Silicones, Hyperpure Silicon, Food, Personal care and Pharma chemicals for customers worldwide across multiple industries

Led analytical, process control and QA laboratories and four separate divisional sites. Served as NAFTA IMS consultant and lead auditor for quality, environmental, food safety, personal care and medical device products and plant safety programs. Directed internal audits for six US facilities, European sites, and contracted product tollers. Reported to VP of HR. Managed and developed seven direct reports and 35 indirect reports. Indirect reports were Chemists and Technicians in Laboratories. Collaborated with parent company, global business units and corporate departments.
Initiated, re-engineered and led “Global Change Management Process” for risk analysis and mitigation eliminating Quality, Environmental and Safety regulatory errors. Enhanced internal and external notifications of changes. Expedited communication of changes to all relevant departments. Documented activities increased over 75% in first six months of use. by leading a cross-functional team that defined, configured, and implemented a “Best Practice” electronic “management of change process”. Assembled global team consisting of: Facilities Engineering, Plant Engineering, Process Engineering, Safety Management, Environmental Management, Procurement and Quality to address risk analysis, quality, process safety management and MI integrity, OSHA/EPA/ FDA compliance, and engineering codes.
Slashed length of time to fully resolve complaints by average of 20 days and improved immediate customer resolution by 50%, by taking over ownership of customer complaint process, identifying root cause/corrective actions, areas for improvement, and collaborating directly with customers. Saved $500,000 in productivity by improving speed of complaint resolution and overall by reducing complaints 15% year over year through leadership of Six Sigma projects, customer, stake holder, and complaint team interactions.
Member of global team selected to identify, recommend, and implement a Global enterprise database (Enablon) for QEHS&S audits, incidents, and sustainability activities. System used to schedule, assign, track, review, document, and report on data and corrective actions on a global, regional, and local basis. Provided regional/local oversight and training of system.
Captured $1.5 million in yearly cost reduction through improved productivity improvements to production processes through streamlining of operations and equipment upgrades, exceeded targeted cost reductions by 50%.
Supported $25 million in sales by developing HACCP/HARPC plans and implementing new FDA food safety Good Manufacturing Practice programs for food grade and medical grade products, bringing all related processes into FDA compliance.
Customer supply contracts increased by 30% by Identifying risk and mitigating potential liability issues with business, sales, and legal teams by implementing stringent reviews for contracts, customer change control requirements, insurance liabilities and risk management activities.
Met ISO, OHSAS and Food Safety standards by employing a new electronic document database. Reduced percentage of SOP’s exceeding their review/revision date from 90% to 10%. Corrected the number of incorrect owners from 60% to less than 10%.
Envisioned, sponsored, and implemented SAP based LIMS system for reduced costs through reduction in effort, reduction in errors, reduced paperwork, increased throughput and reduced turn-around. Notable impacts include: Data logging errors were reduced from 7% down to less than 100 ppm, reduced paper/record storage by 600+%, reduced analysis of historical data from days to minutes, allowed for computerized SPC charting from manual charting of QA and Analytical data, and captured savings of $100,000 in annual labor costs for in-process testing and streamlining processes.
Drove acquisition of state-of-the-art instrumentation allowing quicker turn-around and increased analysis capability of QA and Analytical testing. TOF-MS instrument allowed identification of microbial strains. Quadrupole GC-MS allowed identification of customer contamination rather than product issue saving over $1 million in in Liability claims. Improved instrumentation turn-around time in providing data to production by an average of one hour.
As the US process owner and part of global team, reduced certification, and surveillance audits for ISO 9001 and 14001 certification processes for six facilities from 69 days to 14.
