Macaran Printed Products Cohoes, NY 2017 - Present

Account Management

Scope: I was recruited at Macaran as an offsite account manager to develop new accounts in the Midwest markets across various CPG industries including beverage, health & beauty, food and durable goods.

Sales Strategy: My focus in my new markets was to try to develop new “craft” customers that were good fit proportionally with our company, focusing on startup to mid level packaging users that would create a diversified customer portfolio.

Project Management: Actively involved with my customers and their design agency partners to help manage their projects from design, engineering, costing and final production. I use my past procurement experience to try to help my customers manage their projects and take some of that work off their plate.

Sazerac Company Louisville, Kentucky 2014 - 2017

Sr. Procurement Manager – Flexible Packaging

Scope: I was recruited at Sazerac for my proven ability to organize and source a high complexity and dynamic printed packaging category. In my time at Sazerac I have identified and exceeded savings targets through a methodical analysis of the business and by using innovative packaging changes to dramatically reduce costs

Sourcing Strategy: The printed packaging category at Sazerac has grown very rapidly and has been sourced very reactively over the years. My strategy here to rationalize the number of supplier relationships by utilizing strategic partners that have the right technology and pricing models to support the business for long term success.

Operations Support: Employing more standardized materials and applicable preemptive testing to ensure that the operations teams are supported and comfortable with materials inbound for their facilities. Reengineering specifications to allow for better bottling efficiencies, reduced downtime and less waste.

Active Project Management: I have had the opportunity work on countless projects here at Sazerac, some of a more routine new business development nature, some more in the innovation work space and some engineering work to reduce year over year costs. I have been a key partner, a mentor/consultant, and an initiator/champion of projects playing many roles in the project and change management function.

Innovation and Education: I have organized a recurring annual innovation and print technology event hosted by our suppliers where our marketing team, design partners and operational teams are able to sit with suppliers and learn new techniques and insights into packaging.

Process Engineering/Improvement: With our high volume of projects and changes I’ve been able to create processes and procedures to manage the work efficiently and effectively reducing gaps and margins for errors. With our dynamic environment it is necessary to constantly reevaluate those processes to add value to the procedures and keep them relevant.

Beam Inc. Clermont, Kentucky 2007 – 2014

Strategic Sourcing Manager – Packaging Materials

Scope: I was recruited to bring the Beam printed packaging procurement function into the 21st century with innovative solutions and groundbreaking cost savings initiatives. In the course of six years I was also tasked with learning and ultimately responsible for other categories such as closures, glass and PET containers and corrugated.

Innovative Solutions: In the wake of rapid growth and technological advancements in the market, much conventional wisdom had become debunked. I was employed to revitalize the printed packaging program and consider options to manage risk to the business as well as lower costs. As the business continued to evolve the existing supply chain was becoming strained. In response to this I worked jointly with key suppliers to keep them ahead of the curve and also improve processes to increase supply and ultimately secure long-term relationships to maintain the business.

Supplier Development: In each category that I’ve managed I have assessed risk to the supply chain and developed alternative suppliers where there once were none. In many cases exploring suppliers that were not currently producing for the spirits market but finding companies with the potential to supply it.

Acquisition Integration: With the rapid growth that was experienced, many new brands were created or acquired creating the challenge of integration into the Beam systems. With acquisitions as large as 1 million cases I was able to successfully and seamlessly bring these brands and new innovation brands into our operations with no interruptions in service.

Talent Development: While having junior buyers and administrative reports in my management, I found their strengths and potentials and further developed those skills that these employees could bring to the table. I worked diligently with these employees to further strengthen their weaknesses and was able to take pride in seeing several of these employees promoted into higher levels of responsibility.

Comdata & Stored Value Solutions (SVS), (A subsidiary of Ceridian Corporation) Louisville, Kentucky 2005 – 2007

Production Manager and Supply Chain Management

Scope: Recruited to help develop the production side of the SVS gift card business by bringing efficiency and structure to the supply chain. While there I was able to formalize the workflow from customers to SVS and into the suppliers to provide quicker delivery of quality product and successfully maintaining and cultivating relationships with key suppliers.

Operational Efficiency: The gift card business had been on a meteoric increase and with poor systems and workflows in place the business was very disjointed and difficult to manage. Through some very quick steps and workflow implementations I was able to provide more throughput and more accurate information with less bottlenecks which delivered better customer service to our retailers.

Print Expertise: Working jointly with sales and account managers I was able to help our retail customers bring increased value and innovation to their gift card programs by employing new print techniques to help them build best in class programs for their customers.

Discount Labels Inc., New Albany, Indiana 1997 – 2005

Production Manager

Manufacturing Excellence: Manufacturing methods involving hazardous materials with heightened risk slowed throughput and produced poor quality. Challenged to increase manufacturing velocity and to deliver a higher quality product on-time. In cooperation with DuPont,

developed, implemented, and trained staff creating manufacturing process and workflow improvements. Decreased production time 75% and eliminated use of hazardous chemicals. These systems were adopted permanently as they reduced labor costs 30%.

Product Development Strategy: In the wake of 3 years’ flat sales, identified that increasing product offering might bolster profitability. Instituted new product development brainstorming with production and identified the Pharmaceutical industry as a growing, viable target. Developed new products and introduced them to the Marketing team. This effort established a 20% increase in topline sales with a 50% EBITDA and the new product category and targeting strategy was adopted for other divisions as a result.

New Product Strategy: With no infrastructure for premium/customized workflow, a lack of product mix caused lost opportunities and threatened competitive advantage. Led and managed a project to develop new capability and production strategy; identified existing processes, conceived/initiated optimization, and identified re-tasking opportunities. Recruited and built the team, establishing the infrastructure to execute. This culminated in an $8M business within 5 years establishing the company as a leader in the segment.

Multiple Plant Integration: As a result of acquisitions, multiple plants had disparate systems (technology and workflow) preventing work sharing, load balancing, and disaster recovery. Challenged to develop a single process. Over a 9 month period, identified/eliminated redundancies by implementing a new workflow system. This led to all locations focusing on a single playbook, creating a seamless, shared production channel.
