Employment History

Freelance Proofreader and Copy-editor, Oct 2013 to present

I have a wealth of experience in proofreading and copy-editing, ranging from blog posts and articles, to eBooks and novels of all genres. I currently proofread and edit for one of the top ten property investment blogs in the world. Other regular (minimum twice weekly) blogs and articles range from the medical profession, to manufacturing, media, advertising, financial investing, inspirational speeches, transcripts from foreign languages and CVs. Most recently, I copy-edit for a software specialist, who graded my trial edit as ‘outstanding’. I have proofread and copy-edited several novels for both regular and new clients, with a lot of my work generated from recommendations. Further to this, I have also provided in-depth research projects for my regular clients. I can work to tight deadlines while ensuring my natural ability to pay extreme attention to detail targets every grammatical, structural and technical error. I have worked for clients in the U.K., U.S., Spain and Canada, and have a strong ability to use each client’s preferential English language. I also have a great understanding in the importance of keeping the voice and tone required for the individual client, and can adapt to various house style guidelines. Equally, I am also very experienced in audio transcriptions, and have worked with various accents. I thoroughly enjoy the part I play in publishing. I have a natural ability to focus on detail, a love for the English language in all its variations, and a passion for ensuring an author’s work reaches its full potential to inspire, educate and dream.

Implant Dental Nurse, July 2007 to Oct 2013

I studied for 18 months with the National Examining Board for Dental Nurses and qualified as a dental nurse while providing chairside assistance for the principal dentist of the practice. My duties would include the setting up and closing down of the surgery, smooth running of the surgery throughout the day, ensuring comfort and safety for the patient before, during and after their treatment, and providing excellent cross infection control.

I then went on to nurse for RAF Wattisham. Here I had the same duties, however the RAF of course had the highest of equipment, materials and expectations. It was the most enriching experience to nurse for the RAF, however the gruelling commute meant I had to resign.

I then went on to join a dental implant practice, which furthered my education in dental nursing for specialist treatment in placing implants. Although I thoroughly enjoyed the study and day-to-day duties of my role, my love for literature lured me into a profession where I knew I would settle and excel.

Customer Operations Consultant, September 2005 to October 2013

After originally joining SAGA Holidays as a sales consultant for European holidays, I was promoted to the Customer Operations department, where I dealt with changes made to customers’ confirmed holiday arrangements, e.g. flight time changes, building works, force majeure, and advice from the Home Office advising travel safety. Reporting to Head of Global Operations, I was often assigned to designate work and collate results from across the department. We would regularly be called in as a team or individually to deal with urgent matters, ensuring compensation and costings were applied and totalled correctly. I left this position to learn a new skill in the medical profession, which I felt I would excel in.

Personal Interests

During my free time, I like to read a variety of genres, as well as generally further my education in English language and literature with study. I plan to soon begin a degree in the subject. I also like to bake, and I am a huge fan of The Great British Bake Off. I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel who loves walks, and so walking has also become a hobby of mine, too! She is also very happy to keep me company late into the night as I work. I love the outdoors, and Cornwall is my favourite place in the world.
