VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE OR LEADERSHIP
Pilot Club of Longview – member since 2011, vice president 2018-2019, vice president 2013-2014, assist with various projects focusing on brain health, brain safety, and brain-related diseases
Anchor Club of Longview High School- adviser since 2011
Anchor Club of Judson Middle School- adviser since 2013
I work with these youth in various community projects including city beautification, humanitarian projects, brain safety puppet shows, and assisting the Pilot club with various fundraisers.
Texas Ramp Project- volunteer since 2013 I volunteer with this non-profit organization to build wheelchair ramps for home accessibility for families who cannot afford these modifications.
Unit Practice Council- secretary 2010-2012 helped enact a staff reward program to improve attendance; assisted with a handwashing initiative to improve staff compliance; facilitated the advancement of a patient mobility drive
Shared Governance Committee- served as a unit representative at hospital-wide meetings reviewing quality improvement measures
Nurse Staff Advisory Team- member 2008 and 2012 served as a unit representative to review data related to patient safety and quality of care. During a time of high turnover, we passed a policy to reward longevity and retention.
PROJECTS AND PRESENTATIONS
1996 Project Thunder- As a staff nurse, I assisted with gathering data related to ventilator patients.
2010 Oral presentation on sickle cell anemia- As a staff nurse, I presented oral information during a staff meeting educating fellow nurses on lab results and treatment pertinent to sickle cell pain crisis.
2014- Poster presentation for acute vs chronic pain treatment- Assisted two other staff nurses to develop a poster presentation for a hospital-wide education event.
2015- Power point presentation on patient handwashing- Presented a power point presentation to staff members in an effort to encourage staff to encourage handwashing by patients prior to meals and after urination or defecation. Patient handwashing has been linked to decreased postoperative infections.
2016- Power point presentation on sex trafficking- Presented a power point address for characteristics consistent with human/ sex trafficking. This information was disseminated to aid healthcare workers to identify trafficking victims.
2017- Poster presentation on staff handwashing- This information was the kick-off of a “foam-in/ foam out” campaign to increase staff handwashing compliance.
2018- Trifold handout- As a community health outreach, I developed a handout educating women about the risks of stroke during pregnancy.
