Reported to the Vice President of USA Procurement, with regular reporting to USA CEO / CFO; responsible for enterprise-wide analysis and reporting of the contracting process with respect to the administration and management of all contracts; responsibilities included training and managing personnel associated with the commercial contract approval and contract management processes with a team of five and accountability for annual spend of over $5B.
Analyzed and organized contracts and internal contracting activities. INLAND STEEL COMPANY, East Chicago, IN (JUNE 1981 – JUNE 1991) A domestic, integrated manufacturer of iron/steel products. Work included an 80” Hot Strip Mill assignment, a plant Yield Committee assignment, a Steelmaking Shop assignment and a Central Engineering Department assignment.

Developed and implemented a computer control model for width control on rolling equipment in the 80” Hot Strip Mill; helped save millions of dollars in yield by reducing coil width overage by over a half inch.
Participated in the first plant-wide Yield Committee and Processes and Practices Group to help improve inter-departmental quality performance, focusing on slab dimensional control and downstream processing; including cold-mill delay performance. Instituted SPC in areas of the 80” Hot Strip Mill.
Worked on new in-house equipment; re-designed an automatic crop shear positioning platform / sensors for the 80” HSM Finishing area to help reduce crop length on transfer bars, saving millions in yearly crop loss.
Worked in the new #4BOF Vacuum Degasser facility and participated in a project to reduce nitrogen infiltration in the snorkel area. Re-designed the snorkel flange cooling chambers/cooling gasket areas and vessel heat-shields leading to immediate nitrogen reduction and improved customer product performance.
Worked within the Central Engineering Department planning the purchase and installation of new production equipment. Worked extensively with internal and external engineers. Led team effort to investigate and purchase a new multi-million dollar laminar flow cooling system.
