LIFEGUARD, AMON G. CARTER JR. YMCA

Duties included providing a safe and friendly environment for guests while remaining vigilant in an indoor pool environment. Additional duties included maintaining adequate pool pH by testing and managing the pool’s chemical levels. Bi-weekly inservices ensured all lifeguards were prepared for various rescue and saving techniques.

CPR/AED, emergency oxygen, and emergency first aid certified.

Duties included providing a safe and friendly environment for guests while remaining vigilant in an outdoor environment. I was fortunate enough to be trusted by the head of the Evo./Soc. Psych lab, Dr. Sarah Hill, to build upon previous research on mate choice skepticism and sexual over-perception among heterosexual men and women.

I personally conducted studies and collected the data but unfortunately my research was undercut by funding limitations; nonetheless, I gained irreplaceable knowledge and skills in my field that I would not have been able to obtain otherwise.

During my time as president, Spectrum has welcomed various speakers, held drag shows, protests and marches, as well as banquets.
