Originally hired by Convergex in 1999 which was subsequently acquired by Cowen in June 2017.

Migrated numerous MS SQL and Oracle servers into AWS Cloud by utilizing Agile for Infrastructure as a code methodology.

o Evaluated AWS products and services by running various benchmark and migration tests on SQL Server RDS, MySQL, Amazon Aurora, Redshift, Athena and PostgreSQL database services. Setup disaster recovery nodes and tested failover and failback scenarios on AWS EC2 instances. Benchmarked various tiers of storage volumes from price/performance perspective.

Strategically re-platformed Oracle Data Warehouse into AWS PostgreSQL RDS and made significant savings in maintenance and database administration costs.

Migrated over 60 TB of historical data to low cost AWS cold storage and glacier yielding substantial savings. Reviewed data retention policies with compliance and legal departments and purged legacy data beyond retention period to further reduce storage cost.

Consolidated database servers in order to reduce data center footprint and licensing cost.

Managed the database budget, vendor relationships, and contract negotiations.

Worked closely with the business and IT development to define, and agree on database design and SLAs.

Created schedule for cross-training between team members to increase resource flexibility.

Implemented new features of SQL Server 2016 such as basic availability group, data compression, table partitioning to eliminate the need for cost prohibitive enterprise edition.

Installed SQL Server 2017 to Linux and AWS containers as free alternative operating systems to reduce costs.

Built several geo-clusters using EMC Cluster Enabler to replace legacy log shipping and mirroring failover technologies.

Consolidated 7 standalone SQL servers into 2 node SQL Server 2014 AlwaysOn cluster for load balancing and seamless failover and failback with a much smaller datacenter footprint.

Assisted sister company, RealTick, with Microsoft licensing true up. Recommendations reduced licensing cost more than $400K.

Spearheaded migration of legacy Trade History archive database to next generation Data Warehouse platform. Conducted interviews with Oracle, IBM and Microsoft to identify the best database platform for the new DW.

Tuned Sonic OMS database replication server by adjusting parameters and migrating subscriber databases to faster HW and SSD storage to accommodate four times the usual volumes.

Tuned Oracle and TimesTen database configuration to alleviate queue build ups due to record high volumes. Migrated Oracle database redo logs and most active table spaces to a blade with local SSD storage to boost performance further.

Adopted TFS as standard change control management tool. Worked closely with TFS Admin to improve the process.

Worked with developers to transition into Linux environment. Converted large DW tables into partitioned tables to improve performance and space management. Modified DW batch scripts to improve efficiency.

Enhanced SQL Server procedures in Disaster Recovery site to implement BCV volume split and other copy/restore jobs more efficiently.

Evaluated in-memory database technologies such as TimesTen and Kx kdb; recommended and implemented.

Worked closely with Security Officer to establish and enforce database security policies.

Set up proactive customized monitoring/alerting of database internal blocks, disk space utilizations, replication and log shipping latencies. The scope of these jobs expanded to all critical database servers.

Reduced the Sybase licensing cost by removing CPUs from Sybase servers and migrated ePass master table repository Sybase server from Sun Solaris platform to free Linux Sybase express edition.

Migrated Data Warehouse and Flex Trade Oracle databases from SUN Solaris Oracle 9i platform/version to Linux Oracle 10g which reduced license count from 62 to 18 and increased performance four times.

Successfully implemented hot BCV split of databases as a fast backup and recovery method.

Setup Symantec i3 and Exact iwatch database monitoring tools to capture database internal statistics as well as TCPIP traffic into SQL servers.
