• Created evidenced based research question designed to evaluate the current cord care policy at UTMC’s neonatal intensive care unit

• Performed literature review for peer reviewed articles examining cord care practices in the United States and worldwide

• Critiqued a variety of articles examining the use of 70% alcohol care versus dry cord care in term and preterm infants

• Literature review demonstrated that cord care with 70% alcohol is no longer supported by evidence and dry cord care is recommended for term infants. Evidence was inconclusive for preterm infants.

• Created new cord care policy emphasizing the use of dry cord care in NICU admitted infants greater than 34 weeks gestation HONORS & AWARDS
