EDUCATION:
South High School, Salt Lake City, UT Aug 1983 – May 1984
Nurse Aide Certification
Houston Baptist University, Houston, TX September 1985 - May 1991
Bachelor of Science in Biology and Political Science
WORK AND RESEARCH EXPERIENCE
Research Assistant/Laboratory Coordinator - 1993-2001
Department of Tumor Biology, M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX
Collected patients’ tissues from Operating Room and process for study, review patients’ charts and gather data. Clinical characteristics and survival information were collected for each patient after reviewing inpatient and outpatient hospital records and through direct communication with patients, family members and physicians.
Worked in a laboratory that investigated novel mechanisms of overcoming apoptotic resistance and potentiating a cell death pathway in various cancer cells.
Coordinated all activities in the laboratory: Managed budget and inventory of equipment; prepared expense reports spreadsheets negotiated with laboratory equipment vendors; completed complex biological experiments with researchers; implemented stringent laboratory safety policies.
Planned and executed test assays to screen molecules/drugs for cancer treatment. Managed outsourced activities for clinical studies. Prepared and presented project reports of studies and experiments. Trained and supervised graduate students and surgical fellows. Supervised and performed multiple concurrent cancer research projects. Collaborated with scientists within the Medical Center on various research projects and papers.
Techniques utilized: DNA and RNA Isolation and Analysis; Protein Isolation and Analysis; Immuno-complex kinase assays; Flow Cytometry; Growth Inhibition Assays; Peptide/liposomes administration in cancer cells both in vivo and in vitro; Metastasis and Invasion Assays, ELISA, Tissue Culture of various cancer cells (for example, colon, ovarian, breast, prostate, and glioma); Cloning and Sub-cloning using molecular biology techniques.
Medical Technologist - 1991-1992
Lab Corps Inc., Houston, TX
Collected and prepared specimens and performed laboratory procedures used in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Verified records and report lab results on all performed tests. Ensured compliance with government regulations and hospital policies.
