MAY 2010

TO PRESENT

SENIOR VICE PRESIDENT, TECHNICAL BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT CSS INDUSTRIES, INC.

MCCALL PATTERN COMPANY, INC. NEW YORK, NY

(CSS Industries purchased The McCall Pattern Company in 2016.) Architected McCall’s application and data strategy across a number of platforms and operating systems while managing IT and pattern production teams.

• Implemented daily scrum and product backlog management for production teams.

• Automated Adobe InDesign document creation using PHP, AppleScript, and JavaScript.

• Automated the formatting of CAD and unstructured data for multiple channels using PHP, shell scripts, and AppleScript.

• Developed a web-based query tool of retail sales by units based on nightly feeds from our mainframe, eliminating a six man-day job and saving 250 sq. ft. of NYC real estate.

• Downloadable Patterns: a digital alternative to the paper version of our product; required bespoke EPS-to-PDF development.

• Image search for our mobile app and web sites; uses Google Cloud Vision, AutoML, and custom database.

• Digital Magazine: iOS-compatible digital magazine built with the Baker Framework.

• iOS Sticker App: sewing-themed stickers for iPhones and iPad.

• Brought on board to wrangle out-of-control web development project, stave off cost overruns and regain control of McCall’s online retail stores. Brought project under control three months ahead of schedule at a savings of roughly $10K per month.

• Integrated my web team into other parts of the organization, removing duplicate art department and merchandising functions.

• Led the major upgrade of McCall’s four ecommerce retail sites to Drupal 7.x, from RFP to launch in March 2016. These sites earned $3.9mln in revenue in 2017.

• Migrated McCall’s email marketing system from a bespoke system to a licensed package at a savings of roughly $50K per year.

• Wrote a RESTful API used to interface with Interspire’s Email Marketer.

• Instituted software development best practices such as source code control (Git), unit testing, documentation, and dev-staging-live server environments to ensure maintainable code.

• Rebuilt Kansas MIS department after the retirement of three-quarters of the COBOL programming and z/VSE staff.

• Taught the mainframe and web teams the basics of relational database design, RESTful architecture, object-oriented programming, and Agile development practices.

• Held frequent group and individual “tech sessions” to improve the technical proficiency of everyone throughout the organization. With over twenty years hands-on leadership of development and production teams, I have had great success fixing broken teams and improving work- and dataflows for organizations that need help getting initiatives underway or under control.
