Network Deployment Engineer III

Part of a team that manages our internal Wifi and VPN solutions. This includes:

Troubleshooting network issues related to wifi and remote access

Responding to software vulnerabilities within the OS of the equipment and upgrading code when necessary

Set and implement standards in the various configurations

Write templates to audit and manage configurations (Jinja2 templates)

Write scripts to automate repetitive tasks (mainly in Python)

Mentor and train new and existing team members on areas of expertise

In addition, we are free to branch out and suggest, or implement, changes in other technologies as warranted - i.e. update existing data store to accommodate a need that arose in the Wifi or VPN world.

In this position, I have the opportunity to learn at my own pace as well as tap the subject matter experts and attend provided training courses. In the course of 2 months, was able to bring myself up to speed on our VPN solution, our templating system, and learn enough Python to complete what I needed to complete. I've also been adding to the other systems in place to add support for our VPN products where that support has been lacking.

I decided to tackle VPN because it was the least supported between the two my team had and I wanted to remedy that. It's a great opportunity to learn and show my company exactly what I am capable of.

Network Deployment Engineer II

Part of a team that deploys network equipment (Cisco, Juniper and Aruba) for internal (Corp) sites. Includes both wired and wireless setups.

Create configuration changes manually when automation does not produce the correct result.

Service Engineer 2 (Software Engineer 2)

Worked as part of a team on the next generation of network validation for the internal cloud and configuration management system. Added new features, fixed bugs and performed code reviews.

Part of a team that managed projects via SCRUM – attended daily stand ups and bi-weekly sprints.

Tasked with moving our services from AutoPilot/Local Servers to PilotFish. Result was increased security.

Developed tools using C# and Perl for both ongoing maintenance and improved automation.

Created SQL queries to pull data from various SQL Server databases for reporting.

Main point of contact for audits and configuration compliance where HP NA was involved.

Worked with HPE on creating new device drivers for HP NA when there were launched devices that were not supported yet.

Senior Engineer (HP NA Networking Specialist), Redmond, WA 2012 – 2015

Created, updated and managed the configuration compliance and audit functions of the HP NA system as the lead engineer. Brought the system up to a level where the data it produced was trusted and acted upon.

Developed a backend OData source to capture and offer data regarding the state of devices that are GNS managed throughout its life cycle.

Trained other individuals on using our internal network acceptance tool and HP NA

Worked with HPE on creating new device drivers for HP NA with devices that were not supported yet with the tool.

Wrote scripts in Perl to be used with HP NA either directly or via its API.

Wrote a PowerShell Snap-In to access the HP NA API.

Created SQL queries to pull data from various SQL Server databases for reporting.

Self-taught how to program in C# and PowerShell.

COMCAST, Mt. Laurel, NJ 2008 – 2012

Principal Engineer

Maintained the HP NA application (Configuration Management) for Comcast – this included the application as well as the Linux OS running on the servers. The system was monitoring and alerting on any changes to configurations that were deemed incorrect.

Wrote automation scripts to extend and expand the usefulness of the tool to meet our companies changing needs.

Used PL/SQL and MySQL to query various databases for reporting and analysis tasks.

Trained other individuals on writing configuration checks and using HP NA.

Wrote, due to the lack of reporting capability in the tool directly, a web site which reports on configuration failures on the devices for the teams to use as a means of resolving those issues using PHP, JavaScript and MySql.

Self-taught programming in C# and Java.

Principal Network Engineer – Englewood, CO 2007 - 2008

Created, updated and managed the configuration compliance and audit functions of the HP NA system as the lead engineer. Helped convert an old, in-house solution of rules into HP NA policies and diagnostics.

Created/Managed a solution that backed up all network device configurations nightly.

Performed the role of primary Operations representative on the company wide weekly audit call.

Troubleshot and repaired devices involved in major network outages as they are assigned via tickets or escalated by lower tier levels, using knowledge of routers, CMTS devices, TCP/IP, HFC, Routing protocols, and Windows software.

Participated in the on call rotation for the NOC.

Assisted in the testing/training of new troubleshooting tools.
