(May 2010-June 2010) Operation Deep Water, Incident Command Post Houma LA. Performed separate duties as Liaison Officer and Safety Officer in the Incident Command System (ICS) during the BP oil spill incident.

During the BP Oil Spill in (2010) I was assigned to the Incident Command Post in Houma, LA. I held the title of Liaison Officer for the United States Coast Guard. At this position, I looked ahead and anticipated conflicts/problems. I identified information gaps and established communication with the National Guard counterparts for joint operations. I proceeded to update critical security and response information to be passed continuously to the Incident/Unified Commander and reduced overlap of non-critical information from. My Liaison duties were lauded by the Commandant during this event.

In addition to my service as a Liaison Officer, I adapted quickly to changing my position. I identified a gap for a Safety Officer, I volunteered for the position while still performing my Liaison duties. I provided training to personnel until addition Safety Officers were posted.

During this time I created comprehensive site safety plans at remote Incident Command Posts and corrected potential safety hazards to ensure responder safety. My extensive Industrial Hygiene/safety background was the key to several marine pollution incidents. several inspections of working conditions for the prevention/response crew members assisting in the cleanup and removal of the petroleum product. I kept a daily record of potential hazards faced by the crew, reports of mishaps/injuries and medical surveillance. I was in charge of determining if the areas were safe for the crew members to enter and perform their duties. I informed the Incident Commander of the potential hazards and provided guidance and recommendations for safety to the crew members and civilian workers.
