and implement their corrections for
new editions. I updated the covers according
to the specifications of the printers. I maintained a reprint library and kept only the latest copies of printed books for reference purposes on these shelves. I also typed a distribution list once a month of all new titles and new editions, tracking the complimentary copy list and ordering new copies. I send comp copies to authors and sponsors via courier, local and international and also delivered them by hand inhouse. It was my duty to maintain an electronic database of book front covers, author pictures, and marketing spreads of each title. I also supplied Marketing and Publicity, (these are Home & Gardening Magazines and
Newspapers that wanted to publish
articles about the

upcoming books, with hi-res book
covers and double paged spreads taken off
the archived cd or dvd. I scanned all new trannees, photographs or illustrations, received from authors for colour correcting to place in books and helped the designers with other smaller design tasks like the of resizing of images or cleaning up of images in Photoshop. For Marketing Purposes: I filled in the monthly Trade Subscription Excel form, which is a summary of all upcoming new titles/editions and reprints. I sourced the reprint TI’s, this is a one-page summary done on the company template, explaining about the book title, the author blurb, the specifications of the book, the sales points and also featuring a
small picture of the front cover.

On a quarterly basis, I assembled
their contribution to Leserskring (Leisure
Books), which was sourcing of book covers, making
print size spreads (pdf’s or jpegs) of new titles/editions featuring in the magazine. I also assisted the HOD, which involved typing contract summaries, scanning contracts and assembled the new author welcome packs and sending it together with the signed contract via courier to the author or arranged it to be delivered by messenger. From BookMaster/TMS (in- house system), I printed the monthly turnover figures and forwarded it to the HOD which she would present to the CEO in their budget meetings. I have also made
travel arrangements for overseas and local
book launches.

I handled all their customer
complaints and apart from taking care of all
general admin duties, I was the only link for the
public to authors. Therefore, I kept a detailed contact database of all the authors, freelancers, photographers and editors and maintained it. I handled all their logistics from snail-mail, internal messenger to local and international couriers. Writing to authors, freelancers, professional people and the public, even people in prison who requested books have been part of my routine. When I started to work at Struik Nature, they did not have an electronic archiving system and because I hated to be in a safe, I complained and
asked the HOD if I could get all the archived
cd’s out of the safe and copy them
onto an external

drive connected to my workstation
with myself as the overseer making it easy to
access. It took me 3 months to action, whilst still carrying out my normal duties. In so-doing, I created with the help of their IT guys a flock-proof server-based archive system, which later the rest of the other imprints also followed and still is in place today. Prior to Publishing; I have also been on the forefront of a low-cost RDP housing project called Slovoville RDP Housing Project, which involved building 2006 RDP houses in Winterveldt, outside Gauteng. The Client was North West Housing Council and I was
working for Kirkland & Mostert Projects CC (the
government assigned Project Managers and
Construction Consultants). Apart
from my normal

secretarial office routine, I was
responsible for capturing all the deposits that
the homeowners made, from North West Housing
Council’s bank statement for this project and ensured that all the fully paid homeowners house-plans were submitted on time so that their houses could be built speedily. Dealing with contractors and complaining, aspiring homeowners telephone queries was done daily and I dealt directly with North West Hous- ing Council if deposits could not be traced on their bank statement. On a personal note: I have the ability to really listen to people telephonically or in person. I speak, read and write fluently in English and Afrikaans. I live 20 mins from Cape Town and surrounds. I am
9 immediately available.
