Architecting a transition from a Flash based application to HTML5 Upgraded the Flex the application to Java 8 and converted the build system from Maven to Gradle. Implemented Ansible scripts, including a server build out script. The old process took more than 1/2 a day. The script takes 15 minutes non-interactive. Wrote portlets in JSP, JSP/FreeMarker and Spring/Freemarker depending on complexity of the portlet function. Created custom themes and page layouts. Developed filter for handling secured pages and secured content based on an XML configuration file. Created custom navigation portlet driven from an XML file. Implemented virtual host feature to allow several domains to access the same community. The site is for professional photographers to present and sell photos. One component of the site includes converting uploaded photos for web display (using ImageMagick). Conversion jobs are performed by a cluster of custom image processing servers using JMS. Developed a custom shopping cart due to the fact that photos are available as they are uploaded, no typical “fixed” product database. The shopping cart supports a multi-tier pricing structure based on who is ordering photos (photographers/customers) and also includes photo packages and coupons. Integrated Verisign Payflow Pro payment gateway. Integrated with photographer’s websites, making the end-to-end customer experience transparent.

Architected an image processing server and managed an offshore Ukrainian team to implement the image processing server software and a Java GUI tool for the photographers. Developed java client to interface between the web site and the store to automatically download photos to be printed as orders were placed.
