Wasco State Prison/Wasco, CA October 2009 – September 2016 Delivered exceptional patient care to approximately 50-100 patients daily. Communicated effectively with healthcare team members and patients. Worked night/day shifts, often staying for overtime (16 hr. shifts). These various positions gave me a wide range of experiences, my favorite including: Wound Care, Medication management, First responder to medical emergencies, and Immunizations. Although I’m thankful for the experience working at Wasco State Prison, I’m ready now to broaden my horizon and gain new professional experiences that will advance my nursing career.

• Performed dressing changes using sterile technique to ulcers, stages: I, II, III, and IV, also general wounds: Superficial, Partial thickness, and Full thickness. Experienced in Wound Vac Therapy/ Negative pressure wounds, wet to dry dressings, and wound packing. Provides clear and accurate nursing documentation of assessments made and care provided, changes in the condition of wound, and any other relevant information. Communicates effectively with MD to provide the best possible treatment and care to promote wound healing.

• Managed the medication administration of approximately 50-100 patients daily, including insulin dependent patients. Provided patient teaching about their medical conditions and the potential impact it can have on their lives. Refilled prescriptions and notified MD of expiring medications. Properly documented administered or refused medications. Compliant with the daily control substance accountability at the beginning and end of each shift

• Promptly responded to roughly 3-5 medical emergencies weekly, equipped with gurney, AED, emergency bag, and w/c. Some of these emergencies included dangerous institutional riots with stabbings, severe beatings, and attempted suicides (hangings/overdoses); others less violent such as chest pains, unconsciousness, allergic reactions, seizures, diabetic crisis, etc Practiced the D.R.A.B.C’s while responding to all emergencies.

• Worked in the IDC department scheduling apts and administering immunizations including Influenza, Tdap, MMR, Varicella, PCV-13, PCV-23, Hep. A, and Hep. B. Managed the immunization of 15-25 patients daily. Performed Tuberculosis skin tests/reads. Assessed pts for s/s of positive TB infection including persistent cough, loss of appetite, fatigue, and night sweats. Communicated these symptoms with MD.
