To Whom It May Concern:

I am applying for the position as a Legal Assistant and or Legal Support. I moved to San Diego in January from Massachusetts at the beginning of 2018, and I am confident I would be an exceptional candidate for this position. With a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from, Westfield State University, I believe I would be a positive, determined, loyal addition to this Law Firm. I have been working in the hospitality industry since graduation to acquire the funds to move to California. I am eager for learning, along with beginning my career, with aspirations to apply to law school in the future.

In 2015, I was honored to be chosen for an unpaid-internship with the Juvenile Magistrates Office of Barnstable County. I worked closely with the Assistant Magistrate, conducting pretrial hearings with minors and parents, regarding charges brought forth by the state. This internship sparked my passion and interest in the legal sector of the criminal justice system. I enjoyed interacting with the minors and parents in discussing the charge brought against them, and if the case would be passed on to the judge. I did enroll in law school, and unfortunately withdrew due to insufficient financial funds. A year later I am impatient to learn more and develop myself as a professional in the legal field.

I believe I am a perfect candidate for this particular position because, I exceed the requirements listed in the job description. As a part of the hospitality industry, I have proven myself to be a loyal, determined, meticulous employee. This industry requires you to be upbeat, personable, energetic and move at a fast paced speed for hours at a time. Being organized and multitasking, with a smile on your face, is a crucial and mandatory part of the job. If something goes wrong there’s no time to dwell, fix the problem in the most efficient way possible. Ensuring the guest, or client, leaves satisfied knowing you did everything in your power to ensure a positive outcome. Having empathy with a client or guest is a fundamental part of creating a solution in emotional, personal and difficult moments.

I desire work in the field that inspires me to make a positive influence in someone’s life for the better. By working along side an attorney and assisting them with court filings, making their job easier, I believe I can also learn in the process. I yearn to learn by example in multiple departments by taking direction, advice, and criticism in a productive way.

Thank you for your time, I hope to hear back from you. If you have any questions please feel free to email me, or call to discuss the position further.

Respectfully,

Jennifer McDonald
