Managed a group of 20+ program managers responsible for all new product introduction programs across Intermec’s hardware portfolios (hand-held computers, bar code scanners, RFID and printers) and software portfolio.
Implemented a roadmap planning process to prioritize programs based on ROI and strategic value.
VP Demand Management
Amkor Technology, Inc.
Aug 2004 - Apr 2006
From the corporate office, work with customers to align their forecasting, planning and execution processes with Amkor’s, assisting them with supply chain improvements. Customers include Philips in Europe, Maxim, Analog and Korean customers. Manage a small team performing capacity planning and demand management for Amkor’s IC assembly and test operations in Taiwan and the newly acquired wafer bump facilities in Taiwan and North Carolina.
During this time, asked by the company’s president to provide program management oversight for the major capacity ramp to produce the processor chip for the new X-Box. Also developed the turn-key business process template for our sales team to engage IBM/Microsoft and other customers in multi-site flows.
VP Procurement and Logistics
Amkor Technology Philippines
Sep 2002 - Aug 2004
I managed the procurement and logistics for a 10,000 employee multi-site manufacturing operation in the Philippines with an annual spend of over $300 million. Within two years we reduced materials shortages by 80% while reducing days of inventory by 40%, and almost eliminated materials reserve charges. We obtained year over year materials costs reductions despite tightening supply and increased commodity materials prices. We achieved >99.99% inventory accuracy and we implemented ship-to-line programs which allowed us to support a threefold increase in volume while decreasing our storage space.
World Wide Packets
Oct 2000 - Aug 2002
Joined this fiber-optic network equipment startup in the fall of 2000; at that time, they had designed their first product and had some prototypes built at a local contract manufacturer. Within the first few months after joining, established their forecasting and materials positioning processes and built a small diverse team responsible for program management, purchasing, inventory management and product engineering. In order to launch products and position for major growth, sought out and found a global contract manufacturer with US operations, and then negotiated and signed a contract to pilot and produce products at a major electronic manufacturing services facility in Dallas. Leveraging their global spend, we were able to achieve about a 15% cost reduction immediately.
Houston Site Product Engineering Manager
Jan 1998 - Oct 2000
Led a team of 40 engineers supporting the 24x7 operations of the factories at Compaq’s Houston campus. Responsible for resolving all materials and process issues affecting first pass yield and outgoing quality for the thousands of servers and desktops produced each day.
ODM Manager, Enterprise Manufacturing
Jan 1997 - Jan 1998
Acting as an internal consultant, using SAP ERP and lean principals, I was the focal person within manufacturing to implement the program to deliver servers configured and tested to the customer’s specifications with processor, memory, disk, I/O and software options within 5 days from order entry to receipt at the customer’s door.
Reengineering Manager, Corporate Operations Engineering
Jan 1996 - Jan 1997
Fixed the worldwide Product Hold process to ensure rapid containment of issues within raw materials, WIP and finished goods, I improved processes to ensure that materials were properly consumed from inventory when approved alternates and engineering memos were used in production. Led cross functional teams planning and preparing for Houston Operations’ successful transition from MANMAN to SAP. Drove the implementation of the Manufacturing Readiness process to ensure a smooth transition from engineering to volume manufacturing.
Component Test Engineering Manager
Oct 1994 - Dec 1995
Was responsible for managing a group of 7 engineers and 3 technicians who performed all IC and component qualifications for Compaq’s PCA lines. With three IC testers (digital, mixed signal and memory) and a lab with hot-mock-up systems, would characterize and qualify all major revisions and would trouble- shoot production issues where the components were suspected. Rapidly set about streamlining the processes to reduce the qualification cycle time, and also changed the process for my team to be more proactively involved in analyzing factory failures.
