WORK HISTORY
RAYTHEON SPACE & AIRBORNE SYSTEMS
Senior Principle Multi-Disciplined Engineer El Segundo California November 1987 – December 2015
Integrated Product Team Lead: As Integrated Product Team Lead, I led a cross-functional team of four C/C++ developers, Configuration Management, Software Quality Assurance and Program Security staff. I was the software product interface to our in-house customers, Hardware Engineering, Systems Engineering and Program Management staff. For this effort, I launched and maintained an avionics software tooling product line. I first utilized Waterfall and and later transitioned to Agile methodology. I generated product line proposal artifacts, including product line Statement of Work, Concept of Operation and Preliminary Requirements ("The Thin Spec"). Generated and released product line technical artifacts, including Software Requirements Specifications, Software Test Plan, Software Test Descriptions, Software Test Report, Software Preliminary Design Package, Software Detailed Design Package. Executed software implementation including Coding, Unit Test, Software Integration, Software Acceptance Test.
Cost account Manager: (multiple projects including project above) Generated product line proposal artifacts, including Cost Basis of Estimate, Calendared Labor Loading Projections. Led proposal domain artifacts through the new business gating/approval process and the customer fact-finding phase. Maintained Earned Value Management analysis and reporting across the product line, including weekly earned value status reports, monthly account performance analysis, monthly Budgetary Change Requests and quarterly Estimate At Completion analysis/reporting including Root Cause & Corrective Action Analysis and Risk Analysis.
Engineering Supervisor: Developed technical teams to staff product line contracts. Recruited and hired employees for positions within the product line and for the department. Trained department staff in software development policy, software development style and software development process. Trained product line staff in product line domain specific skill sets. Determined employee merit raises. Wrote and executed employee performance reviews for a group of twelve to nineteen employees. Initiated and executed departmental performance improvement initiatives.
Software Project Manager: I led a team of twelve senior C++ software developers to launch a new product within a new product line. This was a suite of software "Services" as part of a Software Development Kit that included:
A new Power PC based circuit board
A tailored version of Wind River VxWorks Real Time Operating System
A board Support Package
A sample application
Specialized Software Tooling for build and analysis
This was a successful eighteen month effort from proposal approval to launch, with approximately $1.5 million budget. I led the team risk management effort, distributed the weekly team assignments, prepared weekly program office status reports and led the software unit peer reviews. The project required close coupled development with development teams for the remaining products within the Software Development Kit including cross-participation in software peer reviews. I was accountable for development and release of the Software Development Procedure, the Software Requirements Specification, the Software Test Plan, The Software Test Description, the Preliminary and Detailed Design Review data packages and The Software Test Report. The entire effort was certified at Capability Maturity Model level 5.
Software Developer:
I wrote built-In-Test assembly code to implement custom micro-instructions for a proprietary micro-controller named the Module Maintenance Controller. This was a MC6800 based intellectual property micro-controller core with custom peripherals installed on every digital board of the US Air Force F22 Common Integrated Processor (CIP), which is about 24 boards. I wrote Built-In-Test C-Language software named CIP-Wide-Address which facilitated test access to every register on every card of the unit via a Joint Test Access Group (JTAG) serial bus. This included register access via boundary scan chain. This product was the foundation for the Common Integrated Processor Unit level Start-Up Built-In-Test and Periodic Built-In Test suites.
Unit Level Integration Experience:
I was Unit Integration Lead for the High Altitude Synthetic Aperture Radar (HiSAR) Receiver/Data Processor Unit. This unit was a heterogeneous Signal and Data processor comprising a "back end" of VME Military Off-The Shelf Data processors. The unit master data processor card hosted SUN Solaris. The remaining three data processor cards hosted VxWorks and PsoS real-time operating systems. The "front end" of the unit included two custom microwave RF Receiver boards and Six Mercury Systems rear transition switch fabric processor boards for high speed Radar In-phase and Quadrature data decimation. Myself and the unit RF integration lead engineer integrated the cards into the VME chassis, integrated module level software onto the cards and completed the Demonstration Validation testing and sell-off acceptance testing.
System Level Integration Experience:
I completed the High Altitude Synthetic Aperture Radar (HiSAR) integration of Receiver/Data Processor Unit into the HiSAR system for laboratory System Demonstration/Validation testing. I completed integration of HiSAR Receiver/Data Processing Unit into Raytheon flying test-bed aircraft. I flew several HiSAR burn-in flight tests in the Raytheon flying test-bed. I flew several military hosted calibration test flights on the US Army HiSAR aircraft (two temporary duty in-theatre visits of ten days each).
