Take charge of a nursing unit, and acts as the leader of the group on an eight-hour shift.

Plans, organizes, directs, and supervises all activities in his unit. Establishes a system of work flow of all procedures during his shift. Gives assignments to ASU staff nurses in his unit. Checks and countersigns chartings, medications, requests for procedures to be done to the stroke patients before they are sent to the department concerned, and written instructions done by the ASU nurse upon discharged of the patient. Makes rounds, and sees to it that all patients are given the appropriate nursing care they need.

Review doctor’s orders and sees to it that they are carried properly and intelligently by his staff.

Identifies problems in the care of stroke patients and take possible action to control the situation.

Coordinates with other departments when necessary in their day-to-day activities during his shift.
