IBN SINA is the name of another interesting venture, National Methanol Company, in which SABIC has 50% and the rest is held by Texas Eastern and Hoechst-Celanese of the US.Ibn Sina has a 600,000 t/y methanol complex at Jubail now capable of producing more than 700,000 t/y, with Texas Eastern planning to lead in the MTBE business both on the US Gulf coast and the mid-west. As a result Ibn Sina partners have agreed to build a 700,000 tons/year MTBE unit at the Jubail methanol complex. This will use about 220,000 tons/year of its methanol and butane (C4) to be supplied by Samarec.
