Responsibilities:

Full Human Resources function across Africa, including assets in the DRC, Zambia, and projects in

Mali, Namibia, Mozambique, Zimbabwe and South Africa

Includes Mining as well as SABOT which is the Logistics / Transport business for ERG in Africa

Curative Care through the Chief Medical Officer. One hospital and several clinics in the DRC and

Zambia, servicing a population of around 60 000 staff, family as well as local members of the

communities in which we operate

Communications internally and externally for Africa

Project Baobab which is a major business process improvement initiative in the business

Some key successes:

Implemented Premier HR and migrated all HR data to the system

Started preparing data for a move to a new more modern HR and Financial system which was due

for implementation in 2019

Moved all recruitment to an online recruitment system (Neptune) and made substantial savings in

recruitment costs, achieving 80% direct hiring.

As part of the Baobab project created a HR Functional Handbook (97 pages) with the objective of

improving HR Organisational effectiveness. Deliverables included :

In this role, still employed by the Trafigura Group, a restructure of HR across Africa left me with the

following businesses to manage from HR perspective:

- Mining Africa (substantially scaled down as part of the Mining strategy)

Some key successes across Trafigura and Puma Energy over 5 years:

Migrating HR data from several loose standing systems to a fully integrated HR System

(WORKDAY)

Centralized payrolls and reduced from 44 payrolls across Africa and global mining to a single

system managed from Mumbai

Centralized HR administration across Africa and Global Mining

On-boarding System modernised and system driven through the W orkday system

Implemented an online Recruitment System within W orkday and substantially reduced recruitment

costs by increasing direct hiring

Identified critical roles within Puma Africa and implemented a talent pool system to reduce time of

hire for these roles

Grading project across Puma Africa as part of a Global initiative to align grades, roles descriptions

and pay levels where possible

Managed directly the integration of new acquisitions across the Africa continent. Started with initially

4 countries in Africa and expanded to 19 by the time I left

Responsibilities:

The business was set up by my wife late 2010 and has grew substantially in the preceding 16

months

Originally operated as a Sole Proprietor

Assisted her to take the business to the next level converting the Sole Proprietor status to that of a

Close Corporation, and then to a full (Pty)Ltd Company thereafter

Responsibilities:

Part of the initial M&R team recruited to set up the Murray & Roberts major projects business with

focus on the following sectors:

- Power (Medupi and Kusile Power Stations)

- Oil and Gas

- Mining and minerals beneficiation

Full Human Resources Role, with strong emphasis on establishing policies, systems and

procedures, Recruitment and Selection, Training & Development, and special focus on Performance

Management and Enhancement.

Because of it being a high risk, troubled business, I spent a fair amount of time on site, getting

involved in sourcing key management, setting up systems and procedures, and improving

performance of non-performers, or replacing them with suitable staff

Business employed 4500 employees at the stage and grew from only a couple of hundred when we

were seconded in from the Middle East May 2009.

Business was well on the road to be the largest contributor of profit within the group over the next 3

years with a projected turnover of > ZAR 4 Billion per annum

Responsibilities:

Part of the initial M&R team recruited to set up the new Sama Contracting business for Sama Dubai,

initially for the Lagoons Project, but later extended to Tunisia (Med Gate) and Jumeirah Hills.

The business was fully owned by Sama Dubai, and M&R had a contract to set up and manage the

company for a period of 5 years

Sama Contracting was set up as a Prime Contractor and was to eventually manage all major

projects for Sama Dubai

Member of the Executive Team, reporting to a joint M&R / Sama Dubai Board of Managers

Recruitment and Selection, Training & Development, and special focus on Performance

Management and Enhancement.

Took over a loss making business and made it profitable, sales increasing from 40 000 loaves a day

to 80 000, and the fleet from 40 to 80 vehicles.

This role is regarded as my biggest career achievement and one where I have managed to achieve

success where all hope has been lost by company management.
