As the Director for Global Health and Safety, I am responsible for the building a strong Environmental Health and Safety program through the use of an Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Management System and creating a framework to ensure effective programs are established. I conduct data mining and trend analysis of Safety and Occupational Health information across the business to support improved performance. I Develop and implement new initiatives to improve Health and Safety Performance; some of the key focus areas included management of Human and Organization Performance Safety Management and Process Hazards Analysis using effective risk management tools.

Support the business by maintaining expert knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements and supporting quality compliance assurance efforts by conducting site level Environmental, Health and Safety audits through risk-based analysis and heat mapping. Assist in the development, implementation and delivery of training and best practice sharing globally. Provide guidance and leadership on Industrial Hygiene issues and Emergency Action Plans. I plan, direct, and supervises work performed by EHS professionals assigned to the Environmental, Safety and Health program.

Responsible for providing technical expertise and leadership for performance improvement and quality assurance for the Global Water Technologies and Solutions Business Units in the area of EHS. Implementing solutions that identify and provide direction in the successful application of processes and systems for continuous improvement and compliance with permits, rules, regulations and contracts throughout the Global Operations. I am responsible for planning and organizing inspections, building reviews, field sites and surveys of workplaces, products, processes and other requirements to ensure compliance with regional safety, occupational health and environmental policies and identify potential new workplace risk and hazards.

My responsibility includes assisting and establish corporate strategy and policy with respect to Occupational Health, Safety and Environmental Programs, providing consultation on quality assurance and performance, and support other EHS functions within the SUEZ Global Operation. As directed by the Vice President of Corporate Environment, Health & Safety, I continue to provide technical guidance in the areas of safety, health and environmental programs; and advise corporate leadership teams on varies complex safety matters in order to resolve issues pertaining to cost-effective safety measures that commensurate with the regional requirements. I am responsible for consultations with local and regional EHS authorities and maintain liaison with other safety and health personnel within global regions worldwide.

I am responsible for driving positive change in EHS programs through proactive planning, execution and measuring to ensure corporate goals are met and/or exceeded. I have been given opportunity to sit on the company’s global safety and security committees and speak at global conferences on health and safety issues to influence the direction of new rules and regulations. I provide technical support for due diligence and proposal efforts to ensure that all company environment, health and safety reporting requirements are met.

Serve as the agency’s chief safety, health and environmental subject matter expert for technical support in emergency management operations; as well as the Agency’s day-to-day operations safety, health, medical readiness and environmental management programs. Responsible for ensuring that all FEMA programs and operations are in compliance with all federal, state, department and local standards and guidelines.

Devoted to successfully implementing and executing the development and management of a robust safety, health, and environmental management program throughout FEMA in an effort to meet OSHA, EPA and DHS requirements of ensuring that an agency-wide safety, occupational health and environmental management program is incorporated into the emergency management mission.

Established risk management programs and projects through an integrative project management process which appropriately aligned each phase of a project which ensured objectives and goals where met at all phases. Ensure that performance measures and reporting requirements are established to monitor and evaluate progress and ensure effective results that would also improve the management of future projects.

Led the development and implementation of the highest rated safety, health and environmental management program for four consecutive years, within the Department of Homeland Security. Developed Occupational Safety and Health Training programs for over 7,000 employees and contractors.

Responsible for a $4.6 million dollar (non-disaster) budget to support agency operations. Over the past 4 years, through strategic planning and implementing greater program efficiencies, our team has saved the agency $3.1 million program dollars.

Created the Agency’s first safety and health disaster program through a risk-based management approach that analyzed the risk associated and incorporated the environmental health conditions by applying practical field assessments.

Manage an operation that staffs 24 employees; 16 employees in the Regional and U.S. territories operations; and a cadre of over 60 disaster safety officers nation-wide.

Successfully developed and implemented the Agency’s first safety and environmental program to improve policies, practices, methods, scientific and technology systems, to improve sustainability and efficiency across the agency through risk management.

Developed the Agency’s first comprehensive environmental compliance program in an effort to increase sustainability efforts throughout the agency. This includes the development of the Environmental Management System (EMS) that had the capability of identifying and targeting specific operations to address requirements set forth by federal, state and local governments. Directed the evolution toward a performance/risk-based national “out-of-the box” occupational safety and health program to provide FEMA employees with a safe, “zero fatality” efficient and effective way of conducting business and to reduce hazards within the overall Agency mission for the past seven years.

Developed the first Employee Medical Readiness Program for the Agency’s Incident Management Action Teams and disaster response employees. Received the Administrator’s award for Performance.

Responsible for day-to-day oversight of the industrial hygiene operations, environmental health inspections, real property audits, facility renovation projects, training in various occupational safety and health programs, construction safety and office management safety programs. Responsible for the day-to-day management of an $8 million budget. Responsible for the oversight and development of various occupational health and safety training programs/ modules for staff operations; including health and safety preparedness programs. Directly supervised 12 employees. Advised upper management on occupational safety and environmental health matters and provides guidance in developing training, planning exercises, coordinating operations, and monitoring the programs in accordance with applicable federal, state and local governments.

Responsible for the Smithsonian Institution (SI) the safety and health of approximately 6000 staff, over 20,000 volunteers, and over 400 research scientists at approximately 30 facilities and laboratories throughout the United States, Central and South America. Responsible for developing and administering policies, evaluating programs, and providing advice as well as customer service to field activities, private contracting companies, and other agencies which had participating or related programs.

Developed and led the Operation’s first Emergency Response and Disaster Preparedness Program. Received a budget of over $2.5 million dollars and reduced the budget substantially in the first year to $1.3 million dollars through partnerships and effective training and efficiencies.

Directed the work product and timely project completion of 27 Headquarters safety and health staff members. These projects and programs involved complex and hazardous chemicals, physical, laboratory and production operations, equipment and mechanical hazards, building related energy and environmental programs, emergency and disaster preparedness, indoor air quality, audits, medical surveillance, accident prevention, awareness training, construction safety and inspection operations involving, building facilities and mechanical systems, and biological/chemical processes in research and development.

Responsible in the development and implementation of the agency’s award environmental health hazard program to determine safe levels and reduce hazards within operations at all Smithsonian operations world-wide. These areas covered industrial shops; residential housing, educational training facilities, production areas; office areas; laboratories and health facilities.
