Chief Operating Officer - North America June, 2012 – July, 2018

Functioned as President and General Manager for a rapidly expanding global specialty food ingredient, nutritionals and chemical company, with operations in multiple countries and consolidated under a Dutch entity owned by a Malaysian holding company (IOI Group). Managed across all functions with full accountability for a $576 mm P+L. Chaired America’s Executive Committee and member of the Global Operating Committee, with 8 direct and 360 indirect reports.

Grew EBITDA from $15.9MM to $38.2MM across 366 SKUs, with volumes increasing from 282K metric tons to 437K metric tons at $576MM sales by becoming the recognized leader and preferred supplier across all market segments. Also initiated a new industry game changing $150MM deep water terminal and production facility on the East Coast.

Won and maintained leadership for growth and EBIT over Asia and EMEA regions starting in first year, through development of specialties and partnerships with customers including multinationals, which added to global sales as well.

Expanded US capabilities, achieving 2-year returns on $12MM of further expansion capital across 3 significant projects. Acquired, integrated, and further expanded a Canadian production facility.

Developed and evaluated partnerships, acquisitions, and ventures. Company was acquired by a larger competitor at a 16.5 multiple to EBITDA and led seamless integration and transition to new ownership.

IOI LODERS CROKLAAN, Channahon, IL

Vice President of Operations July, 2010 – June, 2012

Directed operations and all related supply chain functions of engineering, quality, planning, logistics, purchasing and commodities at a large, complex food ingredients facility with 16 distinct unit operations and 6 specialty packaging lines during rapid growth period while leading major capital expansion for further growth.

Improved OEE and utilized capacity 9% (to 86% OEE), delivering over $3MM in immediate annualized EBIT through operational debottlenecking using TPM with Six Sigma and Lean, capability validations, and improved planning.

Achieved and maintained SQF Level 3 certification.

Led design, construction, and start-up of $42 MM expansion with supporting global supply chains which doubled US production capacities and included new R+D center and regional headquarters.

Directed business case and project development for a $32 mm greenfield facility in Brazil which and redirected to a higher value partnering relationship using a non-competitor’s idle capacity for improved results and risk reduction.

SOLVENT-SYSTEMS INTERNATIONAL, Elk Grove Village, IL

Vice President of Manufacturing (Contract) June, 2009 – July, 2010

Ran the operations of a small chemical and biodiesel company and implemented a new specialty chemical process and product line starting from recycled cooking oils, targeting the janitorial and heavy industrial markets.

Reengineered, then completed construction and commissioning of 1.5 ton per hour biodiesel production units previously incomplete and not production capable.

Conceptualized, designed, built, and started an innovative industrial cleaner production and packaging facility based on recycled cooking oils converted to soap and formulated with other green surfactants.

GREENHUNTER ENERGY, Houston, TX

General Manager - Houston Biofuels Refinery and Bulk Terminal December, 2008 – May, 2009

Led commissioning and start-up of 105MM gallon per year biofuels refinery and 720K-barrel terminal, directing all functions with full P+L responsibility. Largest US biodiesel refinery at the time. Also led the permanent closure of the facility which happened due to rapid legislative changes which made the biodiesel industry not viable for two years.

Achieved vertical startup, reaching 106% of nameplate capacity within 42 days of commissioning.

Developed processes to purify product which other producers were unable to make suitable for EU markets, bringing additional profits on otherwise unsold capacities.

CONAGRA FOODS, Naperville, IL and Omaha, NE

Director - Corporate Continuous Improvement and Engineering August, 2006 – November, 2008

Implemented TPM Early Equipment and Commercialization practices in 49 facilities having sales of $26B and implemented best practices in capital project and overall project management for design, implementation and commercialization of assets and products consistent with IPA best practices of front end loading.

Requested by senior leadership for key role in a TPM implementation done in partnership with Milliken and Company based on known prior experience and success to these leaders while at the Stepan Company.

Developed the TPM processes and training materials, followed by corporate “roll out” and implementation in all ConAgra and Lamb Weston facilities with direct leadership in 8 facilities with major capital transformational projects underway for process relocations or large expansions with accountability for the results of the project in commercialization.

Implemented processes used to deliver $700MM of capital projects to market on time, in scope and budget and managed 2 internal and 2 contract start up managers to accomplish those results.

Start Up and Commissioning Manager on the most critical operational startup for a new facility that operates on a 16-week season for the entire year’s revenue of $75 mm, with all targets and business goals successfully met.

CONAGRA FOODS, Naperville, IL

Senior Manager – Operations Support and Improvement, Meats Division November, 2005 – August, 2006

Responsible to drive results that exceeded KPI targets in 19 USDA prepared meats food facilities having $2B in sales.

Accountable for the reporting and direct management of safety, productivity, cost management and reduction, continuous improvement, food safety and capital management at 19 USDA prepared meats facilities with over 2000 employees.

Instituted stand-alone systems for operations to function under a new owner or private equity and prepared all information packages needed for operations due diligence for the division’s sale, with the next role being a “bridge back” promotion after the sale was completed.

STEPAN COMPANY, Elwood and Northfield, IL July, 2001 – September, 2005

Global Manager - Corporate Engineering and Manufacturing Support

Accountable for the global processes and results for safety, process safety, mechanical integrity and maintenance practices, continuous improvement and cost reductions, project management and strategic global projects with sales in excess of $1 billion across 19 global manufacturing facilities.

Implemented PSM mechanical integrity program and maintenance process improvement at all facilities.

Managed the global continuous improvement process based on Crosby and Six Sigma for an average of $12 mm per year in cash savings and up to $15 mm per year in opportunity savings through rate improvements (capacities, targeting sold out units) that could be converted to cash with increased sales.
