I’m an engineer planning to relocate to northern California or the Pacific Northwest soon. My interests include scientific computing, control systems, mechanical engineering, physics, metrology, electric vehicles, and mathematics.

Engineering Work Experience

Interface Inc. Scottsdale, AZ

Design Engineer July 2013 - Present

● Lead engineering efforts to improve throughput, yield, and capability of the strain gauge manufacturing lab, including selection and installation of production equipment, developing processes to transition from single-piece to batch processing where possible, and utilising new technologies and materials.

● Designed, programmed, and assembled controllers to throttle the tools used to adjust strain gauge resistance. This approximately halved the time taken to adjust, reduced the resistance spread by approximately ~30%, and operators can now focus on adjusting evenly rather than checking resistance.

● Maintain SI traceability, measurement uncertainty estimates, and calibration profiles for force, torque, voltage, and resistance measurement standards.

● Wrote program to generate calibration profiles and traceability evidence for our transfer standards based on data from metrology labs. Compared to the previous methods, this saves ~10 hours of engineering time each month, reduces measurement uncertainty (by using additional data), reduces opportunity for human errors, and requires less specialized knowledge to use.

● Build test apparatus, set up data acquisition systems, and analyze data from various experiments and verification tests.

● Named inventor on two pending patents on multi axis transducer design which involve a mathematical technique for reducing crosstalk errors between axes.

● Compile, analyze/reduce, and present technical data to other engineers, management, customers, and the sales team.

● Use CAD (SolidWorks, TurboCAD) and FEA to design spring elements, fixtures and strain gauges.

Education

University of Arizona Tucson, AZ
