ABOUT ME

I am a God fearing, fun-loving, sensitive, hardworking, sincere, and natural beauty lover. I am totally a family person. I love designing and styling for others. Originally a Keralite, from Trissur, but a resident of Qatar, I was drawn to India to pursue my higher studies in designing and subsequently landed up in the Textile/ Product Designing department of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kannur. I believe in optimism, even at hard times. I like to showcase my creativity not only in designing but also in cooking, writing and photography. I have a keen interest in sharing my knowledge with people. I am very fond of surface designing and would love to explore on more techniques. I am also interested in experimenting and creating my own weaves. I would like to associate myself with both apparel and home fashion industry. I also would love to experiment my knowledge and skills in situations where one would not imagine a textile designers’ need. I like challenges and try to overcome hard situations with the help of Al-Mighty.

ASPIRATION

To create my own fashion label in the clothing industry as well as in the home fashion industry. Also would love to work with customized orders for clients who has basic design concept, but needs a design direction and technical help.

EDUQATIONAL QUALIFICATION

Completed 10th grade from M.E.S Indian School, Doha-Qatar with CGPA 10.

Completed 12th grade (Commerce stream) from M.E.S Indian School, Doha-Qatar with 90.4 %.

Completed Bachelor of Textile Designing from National Institute of Fashion Technology, India with an overall CPGA of 8.25

MY COURSE OVERVIEW

The Textile Designing discipline offers a broad spectrum education in textiles while developing creativity, originality and design application in apparel and home fashion industry. The course has been designed to meet the requirements of the emerging market realities and enables access to wide range of career opportunities with Indian and International organizations, textile mills and exporters, buying houses, design houses and designers. The Textile Designing discipline is based on the belief that the textile discipline of weaving, surface designing and printing are complementary and together can give a rich and more versatile education. Simultaneous inputs about the broad historical, social and cultural contexts in which the designers work today are imparted to sharpen the perspective, while those on CAD, enhance the abilities to work with emerging tools of the trade.

WORKING/TRAINING EXPERIENCES

Attended surface designing workshop conducted by Textile Designer, Ms. Neeta Thakur, NIFT, Kannur (2014): Learned about various kinds of patchwork techniques, applique work followed in America, fabric origami, quilting, patch quilting with kite paper and flat rendering.

Craft Research Documentation on Balaramapuram Sarees, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala (2015): learned and researched about the place, traditions, culture, food, lifestyle, weaving artisans, origin and about the craft followed in Balaramapuram, which is one of the Geographical Indication of Kerala and documented the same.

Interned at Meridian Fabrica, Karur, Tamil Nadu (2016): a brand catering to the demands of domestic and international markets of home furnishing textiles. Worked as junior designer and completed 5 collections for the brand, under their guidance.

Interned at Revolucion Textil Pvt. Ltd., Bangalore (2017): a very strong international player in the field of home furnishing fabrics and textiles. Worked as junior designer and completed two collections under their guidance.

Worked at Integral Fashion Services Company (Qatar) (2018): worked as fashion designer at IFS company, a corporate uniform designing and manufacturing company based in Qatar.

HONORS/AWARDS

2 times gold medalist for Henna Designing at school level and 1 gold medal at state level, Doha-Qatar

Gold for Brand-o-mania at state level, NIFT, Kannur and selected for the same at national level

Silver for fashion show at NIFT, Kannur

Cash prize worth Rs.15,000 for 2nd position in fashion show conducted by MACE.

Participated in the ‘Modern Prayer Rug Design Contest’ held by VCUQ, Doha-Qatar.

COURSE PROJECTS

Surface Design Project: Subject undertaken in the 3rd year, where explorations are done with surface designing knowledge acquired in the past

2 years of the course and make a collection by taking up a specific trend, mood/theme, color palette etc.

Woven Design Project: Subject undertaken in the 3rd year, where explorations are done with previous years’ knowledge about weaving and its techniques and coming up with a collection of 5 to 6 swatches based on trend, mood/theme, color palette and client.

Advanced Design Project: Subject undertaken in the 4th year of the course, where exploration is done with whatever knowledge acquired in the past 3 years and make a collection on the basis of a theme/mood, color palette, trend etc.
