Do it right at first time:

This is what I always believe.

Regardless whom I work for, I always put the best interest of companies and clients in front. I always get high marks from supervisors and clients for job performance.

That is because I stick on the principle of professionalism and cost concise which is referring to “If you do it right at very first beginning, it will be much easier and cost less down the road.”

For examples,

At Fluor, when I took over and started working on the produce water pumps (screw pumps) package, some obvious error was spotted by me immediately. After checking with process and some documents digging, fortunately, we avoided the $3.6 million mistake at the very beginning. Also, I rejected client’s request to reduce motor rating for the pumps based on service factor and offshore application considerations.

I was assigned to handle the most challenging/critical, subsea chemical transfer/injection systems, total 8 skids, after 3 months on the project because of engineering capabilities/experience and working attitude. At the end, client’s OP group was so impressed by the skids sizes and layout within the constraint of plot plan of the semi. The OP leader and the project engineer responsible of process also expressed his compliments at least twice in the public by saying “No doubt about it, these are the best engineered skids on Thunder House.”

Here is another one:

I was approached by Bechtel’s management team around early December, 2001, right after client’s package review was done to stay 3 or 4 more months to help some other engineers finalized their packages. But, I had already committed to Mustang Engineering at that time.

While I was a RE for Motiva CEP for Coke Unit, IGCC gas plant Amine Unit and Angola LNG project, I voiced my concern of the piping specifications for corrosive services and NDT, PWHT, etc. requirements, based on experience and the process stream information. At beginning, no one would like to make changes. But, after several meetings with JV and Clients, I can see the engineering/design criteria are heading to the right direction.

“He is always right”:

I can memorize the summary of engineering specifications, usually hundreds of pages, and can point out specific

sections dealing with particular issues raised either by Client, Toyo’s own project team, or sub-vendors. This

ability/capacity really surprised the PM. After several communications with involved parties, the above quotation is

what he always said, if the other parties still have any doubts in mind.

Winning personality/Trust of the client:

I was in the site for a while and pulled back for another project assignments. However, I was dispatched to job site in early December, 1996 to help PM and to make sure that final leg of the project was in good shape with 4-hour notice.

When I showed up next morning at 7 am, client was so happy. They knew I was here to solve problems, to push the field contractors to meet deadline without sacrifice the quality.

During my stay, the major task was to turn the facility to client, system by system after tested.

To my surprises, whatever systems I tested together with sub-contractors and signed off, client just waived the witness test again, signed-off and accepted the system as it was. It seemed that I have the trust of end-user because of my attitude and conflict-solving skills to field contractors.

with 4 engineers on CSPC Naihai project, they positively knew what I was talking about in the interview, I showed up

next morning.
