Duties & Responsibilities:

• Endeavors to deliver high quality nursing care to all allocated post-operative patients assist surgery and physician as needed.

• Communicate effectively verbally and written to maintain continuity of patient care.

• Checking narcotics and controlled drugs as per hospital policy admission transfer and discharge procedure of the patients time to time monitoring

Admission of Patients

Assessment of the Patients

Assessing, planning, implementing and evaluation nursing interventions using nursing process.

Maintaining the highest possible standard patient care with all aseptic technique.

Provide immediate Medical and Surgical care to the Patient

Taking over and handing over the responsibilities of the ward from staff of other shift.

Proper Hand washing before and after every procedure

Accompanies doctors on ward rounds and implement treatment as required.

Maintain good interpersonal relationship with the patients

Explain the disease condition and treatment measures and procedures done briefly and clearly.

Assist the Doctors in performing diagnostic and the therapeutic procedure like, insertion of central line, insertion of arterial line, Defibrillation, doing abdominal tapping, blood collections, Lumbar Puncture, Bone Marrow aspiration, Endotracheal Intubation and Extubation, Intra Coastal tube insertion and drainage, C.P.R.

Prepare the patients for procedures like X-ray, C.T.Scan, ECG, IVP and Barium Meal as ordered.

Check Narcotic Drug at each shift duty and record it in the register and keep in the locker.

Respect patients privacy and confidentiality

Postoperative care of surgery patients

Care of patient with tracheostomy and colostomy

Setting up of crash cart if patient is receiving injection heparin every six hour should check prothrombine and thrombin time.

Send diet chart to the dietician according to the Doctor’s order.

Reports verbally by going bed to bed, writing the progress of patient’s conditions at each shift change.

Physical and psychological preparation of the patient before surgery.

Catheterization and care of patient with indwelling catheter

Administration of enema, Bowel wash, Bladder wash.

Carrying out minor and major dressing

Care of patient with burns including dressing and fluid replacement therapy.
