Writing, Design, and Soft Skills:
I have written five novels and two novelettes, through the whole cycle from draft, 8-12 revisions, and beta readers. Out of the seven books five of the covers were designed by me. All these were written during the years I taught high school English and took an active role in the STEAM Academy (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). I often focused on writing skills and critical thinking. I learned the nuances of customer service and how to explain complex concepts in simple ways via phone or email while working at WebCom. During my tenure there I was taught basic web design. On my own initiative I acquired extensive experience with Linux as well as some computer coding in Perl and Java. Simultaneously I ran my own business of web design for a short time, building a site for New Hope Church, with another complete redesign a couple years later. I designed an Internet destination for Doctors Fore Humanity (they enjoy their golf), as well as several complete ground-up redesigns of my own personal websites.
While employed at Bethany College, I designed a quarterly newsletter, using Pagemaker 6.0, for prospective students. I also updated their website, creating their first ever online pre-registration using Perl CGI, JavaScript, and HTML. I wrote all letters, email, and any other correspondence that went out to students in our program, giving them clear directions for what they could expect in our program. I later welcomed students to the campus.
