PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Rockwell Collins, Fenwick, WV 2015-2018
Process Engineer
Responsible for the mechanical design work, CNC, CAM, RG Coordinator & SDS Coordinator.
Designed a variety of mechanical projects for the aerospace de-icing industry.
Used AutoCAD to design templates for the lay-up process of deicers.
Used Mastercam to program the CNC router’s (5 & 3 axis) we had to produce composite products.
Used SolidWorks solid modeling software for the designs I created.
Was RG (Return Goods) coordinator to push RG’s through the plant.
Was SDS (Safety Data Sheets) coordinator. Responsible to update all safety data sheets used in the facility.
Designed mechanical components in the engineering lab and anywhere in the facility that might need improvement and quality in the manufacturing of the fine products we made at Rockwell.
PHILLIPS MACHINE SERVICE, Beckley, WV 2011-2015
Mechanical Engineer
Responsible for the mechanical design work of explosion proof boxes.
Designed explosion proof boxes to house electric components in the mines.
Used Solid Edge and finite element analysis to design explosion proof boxes.
Worked with many vendors in the design of steel boxes.
Worked with the machine shop to have the explosion proof boxes made.
Worked with the state government, MSHA (Mine Safety and Health Administration) to follow their specs in the design.
ROYAL DEVELOPMENT, High Point, NC 2010-2011
Manufacturing Engineer
Responsible for mechanical design work, CNC programming, and reduction of scrap material.
Programmed Amada CNC Lazer for metal parts manufactured in a Lane recline
Nesting of parts was taken into consideration for the reduction of scrap material.
Produced solid models using Autodesk Inventor of mechanisms used in Lane recliners.
Programmed EDM machines in the production of tool and dies.
Design of tool & die equipment used on hydraulic presses in the production of parts used on recliners.
Worked with the welding and metal fabrication of seat boxes in Lane recliners.
GOODRICH CORPORATION, Union, WV 2006 – 2009
Process Engineer
Responsible for mechanical design work utilizing geometric dimensioning and tolerance, CNC programming, and reduction of scrap material. Participated in many continuous improvement and six-sigma projects.
Programmed HAAS V–3 milling center for heated composite floor panels for commercial and military aircraft.
Implemented and choose a CNC CR Onsrud router for heated floor panels to be cut on to improve quality of the product and decrease manufacturing time; use of CNC router reduced time to 20 minutes from 2 hours. This was all part of a continuous improvement project.
Designed 4 mini-carts resulting in more efficient 2 cart device that could carry a two-ton load by one individual so that 2 cart devices could be placed in autoclave. Finite element analysis was utilized in the design.
Re-engineered the process for manufacturing airplane door panel so that handle of door could be de-iced properly increasing safety of aircraft and reducing cost of the production of the panel. CI Event.
Created an engine fin “holder” resulting in improved visibility for aircraft inspectors when viewing on CMM machine.
Designed and help fabricate first rack system to hold 500 lbs of rolled pre-peg material used in aerospace industry. Finite element analysis was utilized in the design.
Designed tooling fixture to hold tight tolerances of .0001” for heated floor panels on CNC router while being machined.
Assisted in review of how scrap elements were generated; recommended that environment become more orderly in order to reduce scrap of the elements. Too much foreign material was in the process causing the scrap to occur. Six-sigma project to determine the foreign material was found in the process.
APPALACHIAN ELECTRONICS INSTRUMENTS, INC., Ronceverte, WV
Manufacturing Engineer 1993 – 2006
Responsible for mechanical design of textile control equipment. Improved quality and efficacy of equipment using mechanical engineering knowledge and beam deflection, infrared lighting, sheet metal fabrication, aluminum extrusions, lasers, camera systems and mounting hardware stresses and composites.
Implemented CAM software to improve manufacturing time and reduce machine and labor cost.
Designed metal fabrication boxes to hold pc boards and took in to count cosmetic appearance in design.
Designed many tooling fixtures for medium size Haas milling machines.
Programmed CNC Mazak lathes, CNC Haas mills and a CNC Stripet punch by hand and by means of SmartCam software.
