WORK EXPERIENCE
Pre-Kinder Teacher
South Texas Residential Center, 300 El Rancho Way, Dilley, Texas 78017
Dec 2014 – Nov 2015
Worked with children from Central America (Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador, etc.), teaching them skills to help them adapt to the United States culture. This involved a bi-lingual curriculum. As a pre-kinder teacher, I was responsible for providing direction and supervision when they engaged in both individual and group projects. I closely observed students to ensure that they grasped the material and if not, re-teach when necessary. Elements that were introduced to the students included reading, writing, mathematics, art, and music appreciation. Moreover, incorporation of social skills was the center of the curriculum.
Maintaining their safety required constant monitoring to ensure that they were not engaging in unsafe behavior. I created a warm and welcoming environment in which students felt emotionally safe. As kindergarten teachers, we must have deep reserve of patience and kindness upon which they can draw. Communicating with parents took place daily along with daily assignments and progress reports.
