Responsibilities:

Welding Quality Manager Duties and Responsibilities

Implement and Maintain ISO 3834, into the company and having them accredited by ISO 3834, which is one of the most important Quality standards in the welding Fabrication industry.

Maintain and develop the Company Welding Procedures.

Managing the development and implementation of the QMS for planning, fabrication, inspection, documentation, and operations activities.

Planning duties within the welding department staff and related work schedules;

Oversee supervision of all visual inspections and NDE, including 3rd party subcontractors.

Managing inspection, NDE, and testing plans for new productions, repair work, and alterations.

Manage and oversee project quality to ensure compliance to codes, standards, regulations, equipment specific specifications, and QMS requirements

Develop and maintain system for ensuring that all welders employed are qualified for the procedures used

Collate number of defects on final product / at the delivery.

Monitor Non conformity treatment – curative / corrective.

Inspection at the workstation – number of reworks, missing parts, NCR, derogations, modifications.

Notify the Engineer when any discrepancies are discovered concerning product quality or incorrect identification.

Work in accordance with the quality procedures pertaining to the specific department.

Ensure that required documentation is available at the production stations prior to any inspection operation.

Ensure that stage samples (1st off’s and last offs) are established and in place when production is being carried out.

Ensure that all checking equipment and gauges are calibrated and assigned to production.

Ensure that first off samples are inspected and identified and are at the place of production.

Carry out inspections according to instructions.

Control reworks and rejects and ensure records are up to date.

Ensure that records are kept up to date and stored/filed accordingly.

Perform all activities in accordance with the quality requirements of the position and adhere to all company quality policies, procedures and standards, as applicable.

Follow and adhere to all safety procedures and standards of the company.

Ensure all code requirements are incorporated in the design drawings and that it is practical to manufacture the equipment as per drawing.

Ensuring material orders compiles with the equipment’s service requirement and all applicable Standard and Specifications

Establishing/creating & verifying the PQR, WPS and Welder qualification

Conduct welding inspection and quality control on fabricated parts.

Identify, observe and understand existing client processes, procedures, instructions, directives, specifications to work activity should any updates come into effect.

Review and approve QCP’s.

Ensuring data books and necessary report/certificates are provided by service providers upon completion of work activity.

Final review of data packs, reports and other documents prior to submission to the client.

Minimize rework & poor workmanship or planning related delays

Reporting of any non-compliant work by means of NCR, relating to the schedule or quality of work.

Focus on continuous improvement.

Assist the client with SHEQ related activities on site.

Final review of the data packs, reports and other documents prior to submission to the client.

Ensuring data books and necessary report/certificates are provided by service providers upon completion of work activity.

Ensure quality is built into the processes.

Inspect the product before, during & after production.

Defined and communicate the quality acceptance criteria at each workstation.

With welding supervisor, train welders to use the self-inspection sheets.

Suggest actions to improve the quality of the final product seen by the customer, especially the repetitive defects.

Support manufacturing and industrial teams to apply improvement actions.

Approve incoming materials, in-process production and finished products by confirming specifications through visual inspection and measurement tests; rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.

Document inspection results by completing reports and summarizing re-work

Investigate and implement corrective actions where defects are identified.

Keeps measuring equipment operating by keeping it maintained

Maintain health and safety work environment by following standards and procedures.

Determine acceptance or rejection of products and notifies appropriate Management of non-conforming products.

Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.

View drawings to make sure that welding symbols/ specifications are accurate and interpreted correctly, to insure that the welders follow the correct steps.

When I find discontinuities, I review and analyse them for the correct correction process, for them to be rectified.

Rejected parts get marked/ tagged, so that they can be repaired or corrective action taken. I may reject items outright, send them for repair, or fix minor problems ourselves. If the product is acceptable, I accept that the part/product is produced correctly.

Discard/reject anything that does not meet with company standards, including products, materials, and equipment used by the company in processing.

I will discuss results and findings with those in charge of the products, and recommend any required corrective actions.

Print job packs for components to be sent for outside processes.

Identify parts in job packs using information supplied by Production- Sales order, part description quantity.

Send mail to plating indicating Sales order, part description, quantity, zinc plating colour and when required.

Follow up with Plating to ensure that the parts will be ready when required

Follow up with production, if a component has not been made, for a certain project and follow up with departments, to ensure that it does get made so that all items will be made.

Powder Coating:

Verify that the parts sent are the correct amount and that all components for the project, has been made and is being sent to the correct Company (Plating/powder coating)

Send e-mail to powder coating indicating Sales order, part description, quantity colour required and due date

Update Powder coating spreadsheet with all relevant information from the e-mail, to be able to track, how many parts come back at a certain time and when we have received all of parts.

Calculate the Surface area of each part in square meters, before sending for the correct pricing to be calculated.

Follow up with Powder coating to ensure that the parts will be ready when required, that they are not overdue, when required to be sent to the clients.

Upon return of goods from powder coating capture delivery notes on the spreadsheet to keep track of what has been completed and if it has been completed in the correct colour.

Quality checks are done on the parts, to ensure that it has been powder coated correctly, without any defects. (Lack of powder, excess powder, scratches, dents,etc)

Forward copies of delivery notes to accounts for issuing of purchase orders

Check pricing on purchase orders for accuracy, so that we are not over charged or charged for the incorrect item or colour.
