B747 Test Bed modification.
Program Manager for project to modify a B747 flying test bed to test the GEnx engine and operate its 750 kw generator. This included all aircraft internal, engine pylon, and body structural modifications. Systems to be modified included hydraulics, electrical, and instrumentation. Since the 747 does not have the capacity to use this much electricity another means to “dump” it was required. The solution was to dissipate it as heat through 2 load banks consisting of copper cal rods. Responsible for the engineering design, analysis, product definition and manufacturing.
