Every drill weekend, I am given time to practice my medical skills and continue my medical education. Being a medic for the army has given me unique medical experience and opportunities. JULY 2017- AUGUST 2017
MEDICAL ASSISTANT, US army – Baumholder Army base, Germany
I worked independently with a Physician in the family clinic on base. As a medical assistant, I received patients, walked them back to the room, took vitals, as well as updated medical records before relaying information to the Physician. During the appointments, I took notes in the system for the Physicians reports and input prescriptions for Physicians approval. This was a learning experience because it allowed me to gain further medical knowledge and sit in on various procedures. It gave me an open door to question the Physician about procedures and any medical related inquiries. This experience gave me face to face patient interaction and further hands on practice with skills I learned when I was training to be a medic. It allowed me to also become familiar with medical records and databases used. This job also strengthened my multitasking skills and taught me how to better manage multiple patients at a time. Many times, a family with several children would be seen and I was in charge of taking all vitals, updating medical records and editing medical documents while being seen by the physician.
