WORK EXPERIENCE
Molecular Technologist (04/2017 - present, 40 hours per week, FT)
Keesler Medical Genetics, Biloxi, MS
Knowledgeable on multiple DNA instrumentation systems (listed below) including multi-tasking computers controlling these instruments and associated quality control (QC) procedures and protocols. Operates and maintains instrumentation including: ABI Verti 2720 and 9700 Thermocyclers, Eppendorf MasterChef Thermocyclers, QIACube Robotic Extractor, Beckman Biomek 2000 or 3000 Robot System, Luminex 200, Nanodrop 8000 Spectrophotomer. Ability to extract DNA from whole blood, direct cells, buccal swabs and tissue specimens using Puregene manual method and QIAcube automated method. Performs Polymerase Chain Reactions (PCR) for Cystic Fibrosis testing using the Luminex xTagCF39v2 kit which requires detection, analysis, identification and quantitation of genetic mutations. Also familiar with SMA testing.

Experience in the Immunohematology Reference Laboratory performing basic and advanced donor and patient tests, including antigen typing, antibody identification, adsorptions and elutions, and interpreting results to determine donor-recipient compatibility. Responsibilities included resolving discrepancies and compatibility problems, providing complex reference and consultation services to hospitals and transfusion services, managing receipt, coordination, shipment and transport of patient and donor blood samples, managing reagent inventory including ordering, receiving, inspecting and preparing reagents, and performing labeling and verification of blood products.
Medical Technologist (12/2004 - 5/2013, 40+ hours per week, FT)

Experience in Core Lab including Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Microbiology set-ups, Specimen Processing and Data Entry. Six years of experience in Blood Bank and HPC (stem cell) Processing. In addition to processing and storing the HPC Product and preparing the HPC cells for infusion, responsibilities included writing and revising all Protocols, Policies and Procedures according to AABB, CAP, FDA, and CLIA guidelines. Emphasis was placed on maintaining accurate QC/QA records and confidential patient records and participation in all regulatory inspections. This position required close collaboration with the HPC Program Clinical Coordinator, Transplant Physician, and Medical Director Pathologist, as well as interaction with the patient and his/her family. When necessary, duties included assisting the Clinical Coordinator and assisting in the collection of cells by Apheresis using the Fenwal Amicus instrument. Also responsible for training and supervising all HPC Lab Processing Techs.

Duties included developing a trusting relationship with assigned parents through regular contact and home visits, supporting parents in developing positive parenting skills, supporting parents with treatment services and community resources as needed, supporting parents in making positive choices, and empowering parents to advocate for themselves and their family. Clients were either self referred or contracted thru DHR. Other responsibilities included referring clients to other resources as needed, and keeping accurate, complete, confidential records. Duties also included collaborating with other professionals and entities, involvement in training sessions, and attending meetings on behalf of clients.

General laboratory duties included Chemistry, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Specimen Processing, with emphasis on Hematology and Serology performing ELISA Bead Assays for HBsAg, HIV, and H. Pylori, and ANA using FANA. Experience also in Molecular Biology and PCR analysis performing quantitative HIV Viral Load, Chlamydia and Gonorrhea testing, and Western Blot HIV confirmation. Responsibilities included Purchasing supplies, Accounts Payable and Computer Data Entry. Also responsible for updating Procedure Manuals according to CAP and CLIA regulations and maintaining QC/QA records. Also assisted with CAP and CLIA inspections.
Medical Technologist (7/1991 - 3/1998, 40 hours per week, FT)
Mostellar Medical Center, Irvington, AL
Duties involved general laboratory analysis including Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, and adult and pediatric Phlebotomy. Experience also in X-ray and EKG. Assisted in researching and purchasing laboratory instruments to set up a new pediatric laboratory and became the pediatric laboratory lead technologist. Also created procedure manuals according to CAP and CLIA regulations and maintained QC / QA records. Also developed a tracking and follow up system for Newborn Screening/PKU Testing.
