MAR 2017 – MAR 2018

MANAGER, INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS (QUALITY FOCUS), UPMC Developed communications that played essential role to decrease sepsis rates for three consecutive months. Campaign tactics included:

• Sports-themed rotators, fliers and digital message boards drove staff to Infonet, the internal website, where sepsis information and protocols were posted. During football season, more than 9,000 staff completed the Sack Sepsis pledge, also posted online.

• Articles in which staff shared their own experiences with sepsis were published in Extra, the digital staff newsletter. Each article earned strong open rates and totals for likes and comments.

Achievements and successes in other project areas were:

• Doubled nominations submitted for annual Speak Up for Patient Safety Awards. Established online system to submit nominations. Launched systemwide series that features winners and emphasizes how all staff can improve safety.

• Nearly doubled applications received for Frontline Innovation Grants awarded by The Beckwith Institute. Promoted program using digital message boards, broadcast voice mail messages and other tools. Established column to showcase innovative grant recipients such as Gone Fishing, which organizes fishing outings for rehab patients.

• Wrote at least one story or cover piece each month for First Friday, a digital magazine for staff. Articles included professional photography, graphics or videos to increase staff engagement.

MAR 2006 – MAR 2017

• Provided talking points, FAQs, and other information to dispel rumors and prevent service disruptions during protests, utility outages, shootings, and other crises.
