To whom it may concern:

I am a recent university graduate who is looking for a legal assistant position within your company. My interest in the legal field mainly started in university, where my Model United Nations experience made it clear that I wanted to pursue a career that combined my interest in debate and research. After two DC internships, I was able to hone my interest in East Asian politics to focus on how national security crises and intellectual property concerns impact U.S.-China relations. From university, I take a detailed approach to research that has culminated in multiple Model UN and an Outstanding Poster Award for my senior thesis on the phenomenon known as “lone wolf terrorism.”

After graduation, I moved abroad to China to work for one of the most prestigious international schools in China. Having spent so much time focusing on my academic and extracurricular accomplishments while at UCLA, I wanted to spend a couple years working on personal development and gain a better understanding of my Chinese heritage. That way, I would have a more well-rounded perspective before becoming an attorney. I worked as a teaching assistant to four UCLA professors teaching subjects ranging from economics to geographic information systems. Aside from experience living in a non-Western country, I have gained much in the way of Mandarin Chinese skills and greater intercultural communication skills. I believe that these skills can be leveraged to your firm’s advantage, seeing as the Bay Area is an increasingly diverse community where workplaces are intricately tied to a global network of services. I came back to the Bay Area because of two factors. First, the People’s Republic of China is becoming increasingly restrictive on foreign workers living there, and I did not intend on making a career either in the education sector or living abroad. Second, I had already been accepted to a T14 law school, but my father suffered a severe health crisis in the months before I left China. I ultimately decided to reapply to more law schools with a higher LSAT score to gain better scholarship offers, as well as to return home to the Bay Area to help my aging parents. While I have worked part-time for two law firms during university, I have not worked at a law firm full-time, and I believe this experience will be valuable in this year’s applications. If you have any questions or concerns, I will be happy to answer them via email or phone. Feel free to call me at 650-***-**** or email me at **********@*****.***. I look forward to hearing from you in the future.

Sincerely,

Adrienne Ou
