Position: Respiratory Care Clinical Coordinator

Alexian Brothers Medical Center is a state of the art 600 bed Level II Trauma, Level II Nursery facility offering a wide range of advanced medical care including; a 6 bed Cardiovascular surgical unit, a 30 bed ICU/CCU, a 6 bed Neuro ICU as well as, a 20 bed Emergency Department.

Clinical Responsibilities:

• Disbursement of daily assignments to 8-10 therapists on the day shifts.

• Supervise administration of all therapies maintaining consistence with AARC guidelines.

• Monitor staffing issues.

• Partner with Nurse Practitioner responding to all “Rapid Response Team” calls.

• Provide respiratory services to all ancillary departments.

• Administer all modes of respiratory including invasive/non-invasive, and high frequency ventilatory management utilizing therapist driven protocols, nebulizer therapy, arterial blood gas puncture/analysis, bronchial hygiene evaluations, nitric oxide delivery and heliox therapies.

• Assist with bronchoscopy and intubations.

• Perform all extubations.

• Respond and coordinate all Code Blue/Trauma situations.

• Monitor and maintain equipment and supply inventory.

• Perform maintenance and troubleshoot technical equipment.

Leadership Responsibilities:

• Enforce and maintain department records for current certification requirements of 42 staff members.

• Enforce and maintain department records for hospital wide mandatory JCAOH annual training modules.

• Conduct department wide TB Mask Fit Testing annually following CDC guidelines.

• Maintain records regarding rental equipment expenses including usage and budget monitoring.

• Answer all administrative issues in the absence of Director including payroll functions.

• Actively participate in frequent QA directly related to productivity and policy and procedure compliance.

• Assist with annual competency evaluations.

• Evaluate, trial and create step by step instructions for new equipment and or programs for implementation.

• Order supplies based on inventory par levels.

Leadership Participation:

• Safety/Infection Control Champion: Served on hospital wide committee focused on National Patient Safety Goals representing the Respiratory Care department.

• Bariatric Committee: Served with committee focused on bariatric patient specific issues. Participation in development and implementation of preoperative and postoperative standing orders including; Pulse Oximetry Monitoring, BiPap and Arterial Blood Gas protocols.

• Critical Care Committee: Participated in the development and implementation of therapist driven protocols including Ventilator Management, PEEP/FiO2 and Weaning.
