Project name: Cheilominer (B.Tech 8th sem)

Project description: Cheiloscopy, otherwise known as queiloscopy and is defined as the study of the furrows or grooves present on the red part or the vermilion zone of the human lips. The term “cheiloscopy” is derived from the Greek words “cheilos” which means “lips” and “scopy,” which means “to see.” The pattern of the furrows is unique and individualistic and can be used in identification. A person can be identified through his thumb impression, retina, face, hair etc. This paper is about identifying different grooves in lip prints which can be used to identify a person. There are 5 types of grooves present in a person’s lip print according to Tsuchihashi & Suzuki. They are Type I: clear cut vertical grooves that run across the entire lips. Type I’: similar to type I but that do not run across the entire lip. Type II: branched groove (branched y pattern). Type III: intersected grooves.TypeIV: Reticular grooves (Intersect at 90 degrees) Type V: Miscellaneous/Indeterminable.

The proposed work determines the first five types of grooves present in upper lip, lower lip and entire lip. The information can be used to identify the person by applying suitable classification algorithm.
