Work Experience
Client Relations Manager
Madison Planting & Design Group - Canton, MS
April 2017 to July 2018
In my time at MPDG I increased overall maintenance contracts by $200,000 and sold $200,000 of landscape installation work. I was responsible for meeting with existing customers face to face regularly, becoming their trusted adviser to strengthen their loyalty, as well as developing new client relationships. Being the CRM also meant being entrusted with ensuring that our clients were satisfied with the company at all times and bringing in new repeat business by resolving any outstanding issues. To accomplish this I needed the skills to be ready and able to develop creative solutions for existing clients, as well as to pursue new clientele opportunities. I was also tasked with helping the company meet sales and revenue goals, using my ability to design plans to meet those goals and creating strategies to combat potential market losses.
I accomplished these tasks by setting up a regularly scheduled route for visiting each of our 117 clients every month, inspecting their properties and sending them reports on issues and opportunities that I discovered. These were dealt with in house at a weekly sales and production meeting, where I would coordinate with the other departments to ensure that the details were being handled correctly. Owner
Pepper's Plants & Landscapes - Vaughan, MS
July 2016 to April 2017
As the owner of a design/build landscape company, I was involved in all areas of the design and installation of each of our jobs. From a simple landscape bed, to a patio renovation complete with stone fireplace and decorative seat walls, each task had to be planned out for efficient implementation and maximum profitability. I oversaw 3 employees and managed the extra workload with the efficient use of machinery to make up for shortfalls in manpower. I created an overall budget for the company, including sales, advertising and payroll, and worked to keep each job within budget constraints.
Vice President of Design
Watkins Landscaping - Madison, MS
April 2016 to July 2016
I was in charge of all initial client meetings, where I would walk the customer through the process from listening to their needs and ending up with a design. I would then coordinate the design installation with the construction manager and follow up with the customer once the job was complete. Director of Planning
Tunica County - Tunica, MS
March 2007 to April 2016
In my time as the Director of Planning for Tunica County I was in charge of the Planning and Building department, including the following personnel: Permit Clerks, Building Official, Building Inspector, Code Enforcer. Each year I had to prepare an annual department budget and get that budget through the approval process. As a department head I was responsible for preparing and delivering a report at monthly Board of Supervisors public meetings. I also held various community wide public meetings when necessary (2011 flood, new development in residential areas, etc). I also met and coordinated with various other government agencies, such as MEMA, FEMA, MSDEQ, MS Dept of Health, MDOT, Census Bureau, etc. on both a regular basis, as well as during emergencies. This was all in addition to my below listed responsibilities as County Planner, a position I held in conjunction with being the Department Head.
County Planner/Assistant Director
Tunica County - Tunica, MS
November 2004 to March 2007
My main role as County Planner involved overseeing the implementation of County ordinances, including: Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Regulations, Sign Ordinance, Transportation Ordinance, Comprehensive Plan and Floodplain Ordinance. I met regularly with developers, contractors and members of the public to answer questions about zoning matters and guide each of them through the permitting process. My other primary responsibility was as an advisor to the Planning Commission, including preparing public notices and holding public meetings. Finally, I would coordinate with other departments whenever an issue arose through our permitting process i.e. working with GIS on a Land Use Map amendment, consulting with the County Attorney for various Zoning issues or changes, etc. Land Planner
Dugan Design Group - Memphis, TN
March 2002 to November 2004
As a land planner, my responsibility was to help a developer bring his or her ideas to life, from the initial design to getting the project approved for a building permit. I carried out site inspections and created site layout plans, prepared development submissions for municipalities and counties, and coordinated all of these with clients, developers and communities.
Bookkeeper, Lab Technician

I worked for 2 years in the family business, putting my original career on hold in order to assist my father in the day to day operation of his business. During my time here, I managed Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable, managed receiving, cataloging and tracking of soil and plant tissue samples, and operated laboratory equipment and performed data entry.

Skills
• Management - My greatest learning opportunity here came from running a government department and preparing/managing its budget
• Planning/Project Management – My planning skill was learned during college, and fostered and strengthened while working at Land Planning firms as well as my own business
• Budgeting – nowhere was this skill more critical than when I owned and operated my own business
• Client Services – while my interpersonal skills have been developing throughout my career, seeing and meeting the needs of clients is a skill that I have used every day during my time at MPDG
• Outside Sales – I began learning this skill as a “trial by fire” when I owned my own business, and have been developing it under mentorship while at MPDG
• Construction – I have been involved in various aspects of construction my entire career, from designing, permitting, doing the actual labor, overseeing construction, to inspection the finished products
• Inspections – while not certified as a Building Inspector, I had to both accompany and oversee Building Inspectors while at Tunica, and I performed monthly inspections of landscape maintenance properties at MPDG
• Public Speaking – I spent over 10 years speaking before a host of public groups as Director of Planning, as well as speaking to garden clubs and civic groups during my private practice Landscape career
• Computer skills (Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat/Photoshop, AutoCAD, Quickbooks) – these were learned in college and I have been using a computer almost every day since.
