The majority of my professional experience is in the conception, design and implementation of various custom material handling machinery, conveyors and production line systems.

My designs are in place at: Baxter, Wrigley, Brach, Crown,Cork & Seal, Rexam, M&M Mars, GAF, IKO, CertainTeed, Silgan Can, Keurig, Tetra Pak.

Highlights:

Prater Industries: Re-design of Rotary Sifter to accommodate higher quality output and easier maintenance. This led to multiple reorders of the unit by the customer, in some cases to replace competitor’s units.

Flexco: New concept for automated Conveyor Belt Fastening Unit to simplify installing staples into belt splice.

Hartness: New concept for gripper design to handle Tetra Pak containersat high speed at the packaging line.

Experience Building Machines or Assembling Mechanical Parts:

Traveled to Fortune 500 container plants in U.S., Europe, Asia, and Australia for H.L. Fisher (Des Plaines). Conducted training sessions on maintaining machines and initial start-up of new equipment. Made adjustments as needed, modifications to satisfy customer expectations. Indexing Rotary Container Coating Machines, Continuous Rotary Container Trimming Machines, Semi-automatic manufacturing machinery.

Led the development of multiple module systems with engineering teams of up to seven internal/external designers.

Mar.’14 – July.'16 Flexco Downers Grove, IL Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract Position) Concept and design in the latest technology of equipment to continually improve conveyor belt splicing techniques. Use of cams, linkages and levers to develop equipment in splicing conveyor belts. Solidworks simulation of cams, and components to verify movement in equipment.

Feb.’14 Eaglestone Equipment St. Charles, IL Machine Designer(Contract Position) Inventor 2014 Conveyor design for packaging consumer food product.

Dec.’13 – Jan.’14 R.A. Jones & Co. Davenport, IA Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract Position) Contract Mechanical Design Engineer for R.A Jones, one of the world's leading providers of packaging machinery to the food, pharmaceutical, dairy and consumer goods industries. R.A. Jones is a company of the Coesia Group. Design of high speed soda concentrate filling module for the Keurig Cold container used in the Keurig soda maker. This project involved significant customer, vendor, team member and management interaction.

July’13 – Nov.‘13 Hartness International Greenville, SCMachine Designer (Contract Position) National search recruited me todesign from concept to completion.Machine Designer using Solidworks 2011 for Mfg. of High Speed Tetra Pak container handling equipment. Bottom grip assemblies, Nosebar grouping for metering containers for shrink wrap operation. Container grouping laner for group configurations.

Jun.’13 – July’13Mid-West Wire Specialties Chicago, IL Machine Designer (Contract Position) Solidworks 2007. Formed wire components required for processing in production. Develop drawings fromSolidworks prototype models. Quote customer requests for custom wire forms, act as liaison for sales department to answer technical questions and schedules for ongoing projects

Apr.’13 – June.’13 Beltway Scales Rock Falls, IL Machine Designer (Contract Position) Solidworks 2013. Acting consultant for improvements to existing equipment. Conveyor belt scales require accurate calibration of material running on belt of conveyor, my responsibility is to design assemblies to provide sales group.

Design of large, custom, automatic assembly and test machine projects from concept to acceptance. Selects and directs vendors, and specifies vendor requirements. Nov’12 – Jan.’13 Ferrara Candy Bellwood, IL Machine Designer (Contract Position) Solidworks 2013 Plant Layout and Structure design of equipment installed for new product manufacture. Support and frame detailing used to locate new transfer conveyors.

Designed $500k to $1.5mil machines for high speed, synchronous automation primarily for the pharmaceutical industry

• Proceeded through an evaluation-debug process with machine builders and co-designers to enhance performance

Internal can spray machines. High speed indexing can handling, Nordson lacquer spray systems. Machnery supplied to Silgan Container, Crown, Cork, and Seal, & Rexam. Conversion of Standard machine to coat inside area of disposable battery shells.

Can trimming machines. Cutting rough edge of formed can to specified height. Precision tooling, spindles, and can handling designed with Inventor 10. Traveled extensively in U.S., Europe, Asia and Australia for training and initial start-up of new equipment.
